BTW, I always pronounce it "for-tay." An older know-it-all relative gave me a lecture this a.m. about using "for-tay" instead of "fort." She proclaimed that her hobby is the correct pronunciation of words. Now, she can look at this thread and see that she is full of herself.

She also pronounces "vase" as "vahz."

I'm from Louisiana. I pronounce it "fourrrt-eh" like it's supposed to be. Learn to roll your R's son.
