The jesus take the wheel story has me interested?
I'll start . My first was when i was in college i was driving from school on a rainy day and passed over a draw bridge here in jax. Upon crossing the bridge i decided to change lanes and didnt know that the metal crossing are like Ice when wet. I was going a good 50 mph and almost did a 360 crossing lanes and trying to control the vechicle. I could have easily crashed into the wall or went off the bridge but some how managed to stay on the road. When i got off the bridge to the next red light the guy behind me pulls up to me and says how did you pull that off? I just looked at him with this look like i have no idea

My second story was me being an idiot. We recently had a hurricane heading our way so i decided to cut down one of the pines next to my house that was leaning towards the house. So my idea was that if i could get to the the top of the tree i could get the rope to pull the tree away from the house once i cut the bottom. Well the tree was leaning pretty bad so i figured i'd start the cut in the middle of the tree. This was about 3 stories up. Well i get the rope to the top of the tree and i start the cut in the middle. Everything is good but for some reason the tree isnt breaking in the middle as myself, wife and daughter are pulling the rope at the top of the tree. My bright self goes back up the ladder to make one more cut to the middle. Well as i start the cut the top of the tree that was leaning towards the house breaks loose sling shots me about 5 yards backwards and down about 3 stories to the ground. I land on my back on the ground.

Well the only thing that saved me was there was a wall of vines and thorns behind me that snagged me . Each throne was about a half inch long.
When i hit the ground i couldn't move. My wife comes running over she said can you move? i told her don't move me i had a back full of thorns wedged in my back. That was why i didn't want to move. I went to the emergency room the next day and hadnt broken anything but my back was shredded. I guess thats the price i paid for being stupid .
Oh and the tree didnt fall on the house. Those were my close calls. Lets here your stories OT? I know Darth has died already and comeback so i guess no one can top that one.

Literally several times in my early years. From driving like an idiot to getting drunkenly lost in the Lower 9th Ward for 2-4 hours.......had been in the quarter.

ETA: one true time was a bad wreck where a buddy was driving. Flipped several times in a cane field. Seatbelt truly saved me.

16 years old. Riding on back roads near my house with two friends in the bed of the truck. I come around a corner and there is a truck riding in the middle of the road so I swerve to miss it and over correct and start to fishtail. My friends bailed out of the back of the truck before it started to roll. I did not have a seat belt on so one minute I am in the truck and next I am laying on the pavement and see the truck flipping into the woods. I broke my collarbone, but things could have been much much worse.

The price for being that stupid should be higher.

TLDR

I post from the year 2099. It's worse than death out here. Can't afford sex bots and no porn on the TIDS (transcranial information delivery system).

White water rafting the. Class V rapids of the Upper Gauley River in WV. At the Pillow Rock section. I got forced underwater unexpectedly. Could not hold my breath any longer and happened to pop up. Entire 10 person raft flipped a few seconds later. A women from Tennessee died in the same spot the next day.

All on film because it was the area the guide photographer set up. I'm in the back right corner. You can see me go under and then later pop up gasping for air. I didn't post the entire series of pics so images are a bit choppy in time.

Edit to add a few pics

I once rode shotgun, while my wife drove, in the rain, while it was still dark, during that time of the month.

ICU close to a month after appendix ruptured at only 5 years old. Fever got way up there many times. Asked my parents who was singing those sweet songs to me but they heard nothing. Saw the white light tunnel and heard “you can’t come yet, you still have work to do.” It felt like the best sleep I have ever had in my life. Looking forward to going back one day.

No joke.

About 9 years old I was racing my brother on bikes down a fairly busy residential road. We were taking up a lane and a car was coming towards us at about 30 mph. I started pulling away and my brother hit my back tire and caused me to fall into the car's lane. Car must have only missed my head by a couple of inches. My mom was behind us and freaked the frick out.

Either the armed robbery with a knife to my throat from behind where 2 of the 3 guys talked the 3rd from killing me.

Or,

Like the OP, hydroplaning across a 2 lane rural highway through (as in between cars) oncoming traffic, coming to a stop on the opposite shoulder facing my original travel direction. It was a complete 720 degree spin, a double spin.

The robbery was stupid too. I was running a fireworks stand in a cotton field in MS late June. Had been onsite for 2 days with only the $100 cash in mostly coin change to open with and the guys had stopped earlier to fill out job apps. Cops had them in jail within hours.

Been pretty lucky in vehicles. Many near misses over the years, last after Katrina, Dodge Ram something slid all over a wet 1-10, lucky it was 5 in the morning.

Recently I would say the cancer. Stage IV in Feb 2016, Doc said another week and I'd have been toast. After removal of several internal organs, I'm still here 22 months later so that's the closest that wasn't a "instant death" I guess
