Am I crazy, or will this poll be absolutely devastating to both the Democrats and the mainstream media if/when 80% or more of those who pay federal income taxes see a tax reduction and an overall increase in their take-home pay?

It really seems like the Dems are doubling down on a very bad hand here.

Am I overthinking this?

Follow up - it's clear that the Democrats' pivot if/when their narrative goes sideways is to have the MSM point out "well these cuts are temporary - they will 'sunrise'" in 2024.

That's not a great argument IMO either. 2024 is lightyears away politically speaking.

Most people are easily influenced and not very bright. Even if they bring home more money, they'll be convinced they arent

Two things. It speaks to how bad the republicans are at getting their message out and the need for 45's tweets. Second is I agree absolutely terrible for dems. Once the public sees them for the liars they are trust will continue to erode in the dems and the media

It reminds me of the polls where many people said they hated Obamacare, but liked the Affordable Care Act. Regardless of which side of the aisle they're on, Americans are really poorly informed.

My thinking exactly. I believe the more people who don’t believe they’ll get a tax cut and do, the better it is for the conservatives!

If true, this is the product of extreme fake news.

40% can’t receive a tax cut because they don’t pay tax

I would guess that a large majority of people who always vote D will not notice if their fed income taxes go up or down relative to the year before. It takes pretty deliberate record keeping of tax returns to see that. Parroting what is heard on social media or msm is far easier.

The dems are, as usual, assuming their base is ignorant and/or unintelligent enough to ignore/be oblivious to reality and take their marching orders.

Unfortunately they probably aren't far off the mark and it will work out just like they hope.

Numbers don’t lie. When these people SEE their paychecks rise in February, the discussion will be case closed. See, this is a fundamental difference between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats make policy based on emotions. Republicans focus on results, period.

I don't even think the poorly informed morons will even notice that they got a tax cut.
