Will he be joining the staff immediately or will he finish the NFL season?

Grimes is staying through the bowl game so I would guess he comes in after.

Grimes handled this with class. Been recruiting his azz off which many coaches wouldn’t do knowing they may be leaving. This was one helluva hire. JC has been solid everywhere he’s been in college and in the nfl. He can develop and recruit. This is an absolute home run hire !

OL play in the NFL is really suffering. Coaches and personnel directors place most of the blame on spread offenses in college. Too many OL prospects simply aren’t ready for the NFL.
LSU has consistently put linemen in the league. Now Cregg can tell a recruit “I know what it takes for a linemen to make it in the NFL and I’ve developed 1st rounders in college”.
LSU isn’t going to be a HUNH or spread team anytime soon, so I hope they at least can use it to their advantage to lure more top flight OL recruits choosing a college as a pathway to the NFL.
Coach O’s top priority right now is improving the trenches, and hopefully this hire will really help in recruiting and developing linemen on the offensive side.

I like O's hiring pool. Les seemed to be tied to other college coaches he's worked with. O comes from a coaching tree that has NFL ties. It's kinda nice.

This looks like a homerun hire based on resume, but it doesn’t seem different then the way you describe Miles hires.
O is hiring his buddies. He wanted to hire Kiffin. He got Robinson to follow and now Cregg is on board. These are all college coaches O worked with. What’s the difference between how Miles and O hire?

Versus Mallory, Peveto and Cameron.......

This is generally how most college coaches make their hires. Head coeaches hire assistants they’re familiar with whether it be through agents or on previous staffs together.
Hell, I think Scott Frost took his entire staff with him from UCF to Nebraska.

No doubt. He and O both deserve a lot of credit for this. Especially with it being so close to signing day.

One of these I not like the other. Say what you want about Cameron at LSU, but his NFL resume was solid. His reputation was solid.
I completely agree with you on Mallory and Peveto - compared to Kiffin, Robinson, Cregg? Like apples to plutonium.

This is what all coaches do.
Very common so I’m not sure why miles or O would get ?’nd about it

Here is my question, is he a better coach than O line coach at Bama? Top recuits go to Bama because they have strong chance to play in the NFL.

Either Grimes knew he had this gig or he was told to get this gig
Is there another option?

The biggest difference is the quality of the coaches. Kiffin is a GREAT offensive mind. Robinson, by all accounts, is a very good RB coach and recruiter. Cregg's resume speaks for itself.
Miles, on the other hand, hired his best friend (who failed spectacularly with the Ravens) to be OC. That statement may catch some flak with people who don't remember how much the Ravens O improved once Cam was not in charge of play calling. Some of us saw that would be his doom - he wouldn't be able to fire him if needed.
As for the Grimes situation - he was offered the job nearly a week ago, but we pay him $500k and BYU was having trouble coming up with the funds to make a reasonable financial offer. Grimes handled the whole thing with a ton of class and that helped in LSU being able to make this a seamless transition, with Grimes even staying on until the bowl game. Everyone owes Grimes an apology for the shite he's taken over the last 2 years.
