I remember mine was like $430 a month and during the winter I had frost on their interior of the windows for most of the time. There was also quite a few arguments in the neighboring apartment.
the drain in the kitchen sink also always backed up.
it had free cable doe

My first apartment was like 2 years ago. 2 bed 2 bath 1200 square feet.
If you're talking first place not at your parents, it was a sketchy duplex just south of campus that was like $800 split 2 ways.

$290/mo
1 bed, 1 bath, no central heat or air.
The kitchen was smaller than most closets.
Landlord was a fricking psycho.

In 1965 my wife and I rented an apartment down a gravel road off Highland for $35 per month. My dad said those apartments looked dilapidated when he was a student at LSU in the 1930s.

It was only 3600 square feet

My GI bill paid for mine, so with a part of my savings added on, it was immaculate. 3 bedrooms and only me. Guys frick up by not going into the military first. Done right, you're in shape/have money/don't have to work/don't have to pay for school. Girls love it.
ETA: I paid $975 + electric/cable

Slightly less crappy than I left it.

It was next to a railroad crossing and the train would blow the horn at 4am a few times a week.

Freshman year in Tuscaloosa. $525 a month for a 2br/2bath split with a roommate. A true shithole-the landlord would show the apartment with no notice. I was getting out of the shower one day and walked out buck arse naked to 3 chicks standing in my bedroom.

My first off-campus apartment wasn’t terrible. Cheap 2br with laminate countertops. But I was 21. There were some trashy neighbors who fought loudly outside, but I never felt unsafe in that part of BR (Jefferson/Bluebonnet in 2001ish). The biggest pain was the long arse pretentious street name: Rue de Belle Maison.
I think it was $650/mo.

Azalea Point in tigerland in 2007. $575 for a 600sqft 1BR. The parking lot flooded during any hard rain, but that was about it.

I lived there when it was Plantation Trace (Trash). Rent was $550 a month, and I loved it despite its shittiness. I remember our kitchen had a gangsta lean.

I was there in 98 when it was plantation trash. I was 18 so it was fine for our needs. Had 3 of us in a 2 bedroom then my buddies in the front fit 4 in a 2 bedroom. Those were some good years.
