Being drunk is a crime?
Nope.
But in Arizona, lying to a police officer is.
*insert irrational “OH COME ON” as if I said that was why he was shot, or that it justified it*

And you can bet for damn sure I wouldn’t do anything that this guy did.
What did he do
Name his crimes
Come on hit me with the list of his crimes
Not one single fricking thing he would be arrested for. Execution is in order though

I am now realizing the futility of arguing with emotionally driven irrational people.
You could say literally the same EXACT line, and be 100% accurate and truthful, if you are running at a cop in a dead sprint with a knife.
You wouldn’t be committing a crime then either.
But few would have any sympathy if you got shot. Regardless if you were drunk or otherwise mentally incapacitated. Regrettable circumstances at worst.
So maybe there are some nuances to the situation your viewpoint may be overlooking?

To where exactly am I stretching?
When I said (twice) that it had nothing to do with the shooting, and only pointed it out in response to an over the top statement made in an appeal to sympathy?
Poor guy was just like a newborn babe.

I’m as pro cop as a person can get and that is murder. It is inexcusable.

But you are going a good job of proving my point.
In case you missed mine: I am not defending the cop. Might have missed as well my saying he arguably should have been fired even pre shooting in your self righteous vitriol. I am just pointing out some of the over the top and irrational viewpoints being brought up here that the evidence doesn’t support.

They were called to the hotel for a man with a gun pointing it out the window. When he began crawling, they had already told him to show his hands, he clearly reached towards his pocket and waist band and got shot. Maybe they could have used a taser, but I'm not second guessing the officer. He leaves his house every night wanting to get home to his family as well. Most of us never have to worry every day that we might get killed doing our jobs. The guy was drunk waiving guns out a motel window at patrons..The old saying play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Maybe we can put to rest the debate that only unarmed black men are shot by police.
I have had all of two minutes to analyze this situation and it looks bad to me. I may be the number one cop defender on this board, but this just doesn't look right.
It seems to me they could have ordered him to turn around while his hand were in the air to see if he had any weaponry on him if that is what they were worried about. The guy seemed to be genuinely cooperative in every way. Perhaps he was drunk. The orders seemed a bit confusing to me.
My instant analysis says there should have been some punishment for the cop in this case.
I approach every one of these situations with the benefit of doubt being in the favor of the cop. This one chills me.
I still have unreserved admiration for police in general - and the rarity of even close cases does not sway that. There is no perfection in human behavior and to demand it in every interaction is a fool's mission.

Like he literally was more innocent than a newborn
Well this is bs. He was aiming a rifle from a hotel window. It turned out to be an air rifle, but how do you know? He reached behind his back and got shot.
Having said that..this was a miscarriage of justice and the policeman in this video deserved to be convicted.

I too think that most cops are normal folks trying to do a tough job.
In any crowd there are some rotten apples and it sure looks like we have one here.

Yep, I give cops the benefit of the doubt usually
But that was pure murder
Hard to watch

I've defended cops in the past but not this time...that cop should be put away from murder...he went beyond what is called for in his orders he was giving...seriously try doing everything is was asking this drunk guy to do sober...he had plenty of times he could have walked over and cuff the guy...
All he did was actually escalate the situation, he has no business being a cop and he should be serving life...

quote:Oh gtfo out with this bullshite. The cops had about 10000 opportunities to arrest that kid before he decided to just shoot him for no reason. Cop was a coward and there’s absolutely no debate otherwise.

This was murder plain and simple. I can’t believed the cop walked.

quote:
a tough call with this, the guy reached back to his pant waist after he was told to keep them out in front, but IIRC they said he was drunk, and most people would be very upset about a cop having a gun on them. Add to this that it appears he simply wanted to pull up his pants. The number of shots was a bit excessive and the guy is crawling towards him and it can be seen he doesn't have a gun in his hand before he opens fire. The line is very, very thin here
No it’s fricking not a thin line here. This is a cold blooded execution.
A murderer was acquitted. This fricking pig walked.
But he’s gonna burn in hell eventually. You cannot escape God’s Justice.

What is "crawling" about?
Crawling is about nothing at all but humiliation, and finding an excuse for murder.
quote:I'm not either. No need to second guess. This was 2nd degree murder.
but I'm not second guessing the officer
The verdict was inexcusable.

Dude reaches behind his right hip mid crawl? Kind of suspect? I might have capped his arse too! How hard is it to follow simple instructions in order to stay alive ?
