What if an ex-president moved to another country to become a citizen

Would they no longer be considered a former president? Get a security detail?
What?
What?

Dual citizenship would still keep him covered security-wise I'd imagine. Now if Obama were to denounce his U.S. citizenship, that might be a different deal.

Reclaiming his Kenyan heritage I’d have zero issues with.

I predicted when he left office that within 10 years, he would be living in a different county.

I would contribute to his relocation costs.

Well there is one ex who will need a security detail if he moves back to his home country of Kenya.

He should run for President of Kenya.

The former President of Mexico who left office in 2012 immediately moved to the US to live in Massachusetts where he still lives. A bunch of foreign leaders move to cities like NYC and Los Angeles after leaving office, don’t know any US presidents that do though

I will probably move to England after my presidential reign is up.

The United States does not recognize dual citizenship after 18 years of age

Please explain. I have a 66 year-old friend who within the past year got her dc with Greece. You saying the U.S. no longer considers her a citizen of the U.S.?

well obama is a kenyan citizen by birth so he already is a citizen of another country. he would be with more like minded people who think like he does if he moved to iran though.
but to your point, the perks and security go with them for life no matter where they live

Not necessarily. An ex-prez can refuse protection.
quote:
Obama signed the measure Jan. 10, 2013. Spouses receive protection unless they divorce or remarry after an ex-president dies. ... In 1984, another law allowed former presidents and their dependents to decline Secret Service protection if they wished, which Richard Nixon did in 1985, 11 years after he left office.Sep 13, 2016

Statute doesn't say how much protection is provided. If a former POTUS did something like this, I'd think the current POTUS would immediately trim the protection down, close to zero. Then Congress could vote to impeach the former POTUS and end the protection. Also, the statute could be amended as well, and end the protection that way.
