I'm 48, wife is 44. In the past year I've seen 6 close friends have their over 15 year marriages collapse. In every case the woman is in the 40-52 age range and has gone completely off the deep end psychologically (I know, I know bitches be crazy) - but went from somewhat stable spouses to completely unhinged.
Three of them became such raging bitches that they drove their husbands away. The common theme was "you don't put me on a pedestal" or "you don't treat me like the princess/queen like I deserve".
Two of them left the husbands to "find themselves" and one just got caught banging her personal trainer.
I've told my wife that if she starts with the crazies I'm going to start spiking her coffee with anti-psychotics, but lord this is eye-opening.

Men die sooner than women because we have to deal with women all of our lives

i do feel bad for women, b/c they get an absolutely raw deal, biologically. as one poster on here taught me years ago, there is no worse depreciating asset than a woman's beauty. they lose their looks. they lose their natural femininity. they lose their fertility (Which is important in a sexually-reproducing species). just sucks all around for them

I am going to go out on a limb and guess that the story you got is not exactly what went down in all 6 cases

60yo mother in law left her husband bc she was receiving attention from a previous flame via Facebook and messenger.

Left a marriage of 25 years only to be quickly ditched by the former flame once he realized she was a big ole bag of crazy.

Now she’s alone, lonely, depressed and completely unable to support herself.

She’s a case study in “the grass isn’t always greener on the other side”

Meanwhile the 55yo FIL snagged a 33yo IT exec making 100k herself. He’s living the good life thanking God he dodged a bullet.

Definitely not knighting for women here, but dudes seem to have more mid-life crisis shite like this than women.

Would be awesome if it were required that women enter into a hibernation for the duration of the menopausal years.

ah....yes. the personal trainer. rat poison I tell ya. That industry is rife with grifting scam artists who prey on exactly that: the under-appreciated wife.

Agree with some of the initial thoughts.

I imagine it’s difficult to get used to the fact that you are no longer hot enough to:

1. Get out of speeding tickets.
2. Get free drinks at a bar.
3. Get immediate attention from every man at the tire store, etc
4. Have guys stop and help you with your groceries or heavy packages.

Women get used to being treated like a princess. What they need to understand is that they are being treated this way because guys watch too much porn. We are secretly hoping for a freehandjob for being a nice guy.

Once you are older, we don’t want anything from you and therefore you get no attention.

Result? Depression.

Action? Look for someone to blame. (Usually her husband)

Many women in their 40's have this 'awakening' when they realize (or believe) that their life is halfway over and theyre not happy with their spouse and where they are in their life and think it's their last best chance to start over. Usually happens around menopause or when the last kid is grown (teens).

Almost always leads to divorce, and in a lot of situations, it betters their life and happiness.

There is nothing worse than being in a shitty unfulfilling marriage.

Okay here's the deal - if the woman's temperament and disposition has truly changed, (could be she was always crazy and hid it better) it's hormonal. Tell her to get to the GYN and get hormone pellets. Trust me, they work - makes weight loss easier, stable moods, increased sex drive. They are miraculous.
