to change once again the rules on playoff spots. The fact that a team doesn't win their division, much less conference, and can still get into the playoff picture means the conference makeup, in reality, doesn't matter.

Interestig that this has happened only twice in the modern era...and in both cases, it was Bama!!

How could you keep a team like 2011 Alabama it of a 4 team
Playoff?

Oh but it does. The SECCG allowed Auburn to play themselves out while the team they beat by two touchdowns last week got to rest and still make it in.

It's kind of hard to take college football seriously for this very reason IMO. Why even play conference championship games? The playoffs ought to have some real criteria that doesn't include "the eye test." I don't know...maybe one criterion could be winning your conference?

It wouldn't be precedent to keep them out. They screwed up, and didn't win their division. They may be a great team, but they had bad luck. That used to mean something, and still does to everyone but the gumps. There have been many great teams kept out of the championship game because of a fluke loss late in the year. shite happens, unless you're the gumps.

It happened before and nothing changed. I recall one year in particular where the playoffs had even fewer teams, and a particular non-conference champion made it into the title game based on the "eye test".

Sets the stage for four, sixteen team conferences with a FCS style playoff. Squeezes out mid-major types and regular season OOC games must be against those from the other three conferences.

I see you don’t follow college football. Just last year Ohio St made the playoffs without winning their conference. In 2003 Oklahoma, the team LSU beat to win the title, did not win their conference. And also in 2001 Nebraska got in the championship game without winning their conference.

The answer is an 8 team playoff which includes 3 at large bids. This gets all legitimate players in.

We always hear how important the regular season is, but this shows that to be a sham. Two conference champions are left out.

We are marginally better at determining champions now than we were pre-BCS. We still have PEOPLE determining our champ with their OPINIONS.

War Chickens probably could get in had they won the SEC champ game.

Should not surprise you. They made the BCS title game against LSU when they didn’t compete in the SEC title game

Saban rules. We must live with it or disassociate from football. The latter is mighty tempting.

The bottom line is, beating the brains out of Vandy, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Mercer was more impressive to the selection committee than Ohio State's uninspired win over a vastly overrated Wisconsin ensemble. And, didn't Ohio St lose to an unranked conf team by 31? It would have been criminal to put the Buckeyes in. Same w/ USC after their ugly blowout @ Notre Dame.
