Look, I am not an Obama fan, but I could never understand why trying to make school lunches healthy was somehow controversial.

If Laura Bush has done it, this board would be jizzing itself about how she was the most responsible First Lady ever. The hypocrisy of the republican is amazing

Because we've got a bunch of obese morons on here who care more about food tasting "good" than children's health.

Well it's even less healthy if your kid doesn't eat at all. Too be honest, how were they ever unhealthy in the first place? They weren't that big. I was never full after lunch as a kid...and that's the whole point. It doesn't really matter what you eat, it's how much you eat....and again I will say it's actually unhealthy now because kids aren't eating that dog shite they call lunch.

The issue truly showed the disconnect between limousine liberals and the American poor. Statistically speaking, poorer Americans are more likely to be obese and obese Americans are more likely to be poor.

There is no doubt the Obama lunch program had great intentions. Obesity is a major issue in this country and it was a small attempt to improve it. However, these poor obese children have no intentions of eating healthier or losing weight, and sadly neither do their parents. Making the school lunches healthier isn't going to change that.

If you have kids, go to their cafeteria and sit with them for a "Lunch". You would throw it away too. Our kids bring their own lunch to school it is so bad. Different schools have better food than others within the school district as well.

Also, Breakfast and Lunch are served daily. Most parents just pay an account set up at the school and the kids draw off the account for meals eaten.

Did Michelle Obama's plan really take away whole milk? Because that's not making children obese.

If they banned whole milk, then that’s a good example.

Low fat foods lead to weight gain.

Our bodies are primed to feel full when we consume fats. With low fat foods that doesn’t happen as quickly, and we end up consuming more calories.

I don't think any reasonable people are against healthier options for their kids but some schools couldn't do healthy food that tasted good. I'd rather my kid have a school portion (generally small to medium) of unhealthy food than to go all day without eating.

Our school (semi public) took a funding hit over it. This year we got a new cafeteria manager and the kids are loving it.

On more than one occasion, I've heard morons decry the state of obesity in children; how they are fat and stay inside and play video games all day; "we" used to play outside all day until the street lights came on etc. etc..

Then five minutes later, they would say,"That n***** monkey b**** ain't gonna tellME or MY kid how to eat".

But that runs right in line with a 1.5 trillion dollar tax cut for corporations and rich people, but no money for poor kids to see the doctor.

Cuz they're too incompetent (read: government) to make food healthy AND appealing.

its not, what "is" controversial is forcing saltless, sugarless, flavorless foods to be the only choice they had, kids just refused to eat it, PERIOD, so it went straight into trash cans and actually served to take a good program that was feeding kids and turn it into a joke where kids would go hungry before they ate that liberal crap food

this isnt about obama or moochelle, but its just about giving kids the nutritious and healthy foods that they like and are willing to eat. you know, "commmon sense", something that has been lacking in this country for many years due to ridiculous PC liberal BS

Because our government has no fricking clue what healthy nutrition actually is. These are the same people that believe the bulk if your daily intake should be carbs and that red meat, butter, and eggs are bad for you.

It's not so much that, as it is the food is almost inedible. When i was in school, we had great lunches. Last year I went to have lunch with my buddy and his little brother at a local junior high, and as adults, we also threw the lunches away. It was pretty sad how terrible it was. Kids either being their lunches, or don't eat.

Michelle Obama's lunch plan is about as successful as Common Core, it isn't.
