There’s some science showing that trying very hard to stay awake will put you to sleep faster than anything. So vow right now to stay up all night.

Dealing with it right now. Two melatonins and I’m still tossing and turning.

I go through bouts of insomnia, then bouts of chronic fatigue where I will sleep 16+ hours a day. 16 hours sounds awesome until you do it for a couple of weeks straight and still feel like you haven’t slept a wink...

I don't have insomnia, but my wife has a variation of it... if/when she gets up to go to the bathroom at 3am, her mind latches onto whatever issues she has, her mind races and she can't get back to sleep.

quote:

SO got these gummy things from Target, they're called OLLY Sleepy, and holy hell they're awesome. Take two about an hour or an hour and a half before you're ready to sleep and it's lights out.

This is coming from someone who would get maybe 1-3 hours of sleep a night from insomnia.

I'll recommend this to her... thanks.

A couple of things I'll throw out that have helped her:

1) Magnesium malate supplements. This isn't definitive, but from my own anecdotal evidence, I'd start specifically with the 'malate' type and avoid other types of magnesium supplements. (Magnesium oxide is pretty worthless, magnesium glycinate seems to have a more energizing effect, etc). Of a few different types, my wife and both my daughters think the malate variation taken in the evenings is far more helpful them get a good night's sleep... There's a ton of online info regarding magnesium helping sleep.

2) Google breathing exercises to help sleep... this is taking a more active meditation-like approach to the problem. I don't know specifically which one my wife does, but she claims it helps... Not sure if it's inherent to the specific pattern or if it just helps her actively move her mind away from issues to something more relaxing.

... Also,

3) If you're inclined to read, read from a book and choose something not too exciting. Kindles might be okay, but as a rule stay away from smart phones, tablets and computers which put off blue light that disrupts natural melatonin production (and hence makes you have more trouble falling asleep).

Just went digging in the media cabinet to see if I had nyquil or something to help make me pass out... Well I found a bottle of nyquil. Only problem is it expired in 2008. To risk it... Or not to risk it. That is the question

Go for it. If anything, it'll just lose potency.

Try reading an economics textbook. It always worked for me. Even if I was drinking coffee.

That, or dabs of indica. That never fails.

I was dumb and let myself run out gonna try to pick up tomorrow.

My insomnia is so bad I've tried every prescription medication, no effects. I can't remember the last time I've had 4 hrs sleep. I average probably 20 or so Tylenol PM a night for the last 15 years, and have taken over 70 in a night. If I don't take them and I happen to fall asleep witch is rare I'll have sleep paralysis in minutes.

How the hell are you alive? Without even joking, you really need to try an indica strain of weed. Anything purple is usually indica. That has to be terrible on your liver.

Have you ever had a sleep study?

I've struggled with sleep since coming back from overseas.

3 good things help tremendously, as in I get to sleep at a good hour and get plenty of restful sleep:
1. Have an energetic and productive day; work hard, physically, at something whether it's work or the gym etc. By productive I mean
- attending to something(s) you find important for yourself, so you refill your own tank
- something important for another person or others in general, because we have people or causes that we care about, or that depend on us, and you can get some happiness from doing selfless things and/or fulfilling obligations, and
- attending to necessary priorities, especially not allowing a priority become a problem or allowing a problem become a crisis, as that will be something you ruminate on and hinder sleep

2. Identify things that bother you and create stress and at a minimum write a plan on addressing them, even a very brief one like a sentence or less; and take action each day to stay on schedule with the plan or outright resolve the issue.

3. You have to make some priorities and let some things go, especially items beyond your control. Everyone screws up in life and if your credit is taking a hit or you just don't have money after paying bills each month or you mess up a relationship, sometimes you just have to take the beating and move forward rather than getting mired in the 'how' and 'if' etc.

Yes done sleep study's the breathing masks, I wish I could smoke weed I did in high school pretty much a quarter a day, then one day me and couple buddies were going to the gym to play ball we smoked a Blount and I had a bad panic attack laid on the bleachers until they were done thinking I was going to die. I didn't think nothing of it the next day lit up same thing, I can't hit it even once or it happens, haven't even tried in a few years. It's a struggle but I have a normal life 9 to 5 like everyone else.

No problem with that at all, I've had a doctor want to run test on my liver and kidneys, he said with as much acetaminophen my liver should be badly damaged, but it was in as good of shape as anyone.

It could be the strain. A lot of tropical strains, like Mexican or Jamaican, are sativas. The northern strains are indicas. I've known regular smokers in Colorado that only smoked indica because sativas have them panic attacks.

But if you're in a place without rec weed, it's hard to tell what you're smoking without a lot of experience. The visual differences are subtle. I didn't know until I grew a dozen different plants in summer when still in Colorado.

Also, you can buy the chemical in Tylenol PM without the Tylenol. It's the same chemical as in sominex and other over the counter pills. You should try that before you do have organ damage.

Not trying to lecture. Just worried.

I still have friends that deal with it but hell the stuff they call mid is just some B's Reggie I can tell that having been out the game a while, there was some sour diesel around but I don't know if that would be any I need to try, it literally feels like I'm suffocating when having attacks.

BTW I appreciate the advice. It would be amazing to have good night's sleep like when we had two a days in summer for football in highschool

Damn hippies.

Just kidding. I'm jealous as shite. No better sleep than that post-bowl sleep

As a smoker I never have issues getting to sleep but it's no guarantee I stay asleep.

I hate waking up at 2 or 3 knowing I'm up for awhile.
