The OP said nothing about the lane merging. Zipper merging doesn't apply here.

This is what confuses me about self-driving cars. How will they break ties when 2 cars want to move into an open space among multiple lanes? or how will they make ANY decisions that may optimize overall traffic flow but be suboptimal for the car by itself?

On two separate occasions I have passed a car that stopped and put their car in reverse because they missed their exit, on the interstate, here in Houston.

But I agree, the whole block a lane to get into the turning lane pisses me off too

Hopefully, Elon won't program them with human-like ego.

I couldn't believe it the first time. I was far enough back when I realized what they were doing. Traveling north on 45 and they missed the exit for the beltway.

Second one missed the exit for Nasa road 1.

Did this happen in the right lane of Siegen right at Airline? I bet this happened in the right lane of Siegen right at Airline.

For me its the Clearview exit in Metairie where they are in the far right lane and at the last minute cross over the white line to take the south exit. WTF, get in the correct lane before the white line.

Shits crazy man. You see this all the time. This guy decided to sit and wait to get over into a stopped lane when ours was free flowing

So.

I have to ask.

How many times have you intentionally passed up on your exit simply because traffic was flowing to the next one.

Now if you are asking why did they wait till the last second, thats another issue.
