The Future of the American Suburbs

As a real estate novelist, I future cast a bit. Amazon has taken over North America. In twenty years, every strip mall will be gone, including grocery stores. Restaurants and the service units will remain.
What happens to all that land? Green space, new development or slums.
Will it indicate the new golden age....or the eventual dissolution.
What's your perfect and flawed outcome?

Free market will do what free market do.
I would expect outdoor exercise facilities to become more prevalent. Golf courses, weightlifting (primarily functional fitness), etc

Self aware AI will identify us as a pathogen to be eradicated. The End.

Did you ever have time for a wife? Are you still talking with Davy? Is he still in the Navy?
Damn, that's twice this evening I've quoted "Piano Man" lyrics here.

Maybe further north and out west but I don’t see that happening in the Deep South. God knows we desperately need more of it but we have some lazy people down here.

Hopefully it's just rezoned and made into parks.

The future of Alabama suburbs

I've seen more self-sufficient complexes being built lately.
Essentially a place you can live at and walk downstairs to get coffee, workout, and take a bih on a date.

Life within big cities seems to be getting harder. Racial issues are only going to get worse. Violent crime is on the upswing, in places like New Orleans at least. Joining the police seems less appealing than ever. Changes in the economy may place downward pressure on the uneducated. Younger people now are more inclined to support the welfare state than he generations that precede them.
But urban renewal seems alive and well. People are moving back to cities despite the crime and cost of living.
I don't know which of these conflicting trends, if either, will dominate in the coming twenty years.
Any thoughts?

So no more Baton Rouge and Northshore?

I don't know.
I know central Alabama around the Birmingham area. There are communities that are little more than a Hwy with strip malls on each side extending for miles.
They are now primarily pawn shops, big lots and check cashing places and these aren't ghetto towns. They are firmly middle class. Alabaster and Pelham are two great examples. There's just not enough business to justify paying for a brick and mortar space anymore.
Seems urban blight will soon be exported to the ' burbs.

I don't know about this. A lot of people like to shop for themselves in person. I could never trust someone else to shop produce and meats for me. I'm picky.

That's already happened in Metro Atlanta (South DeKalb, South Cobb, western Gwinnett, Clayton County).
