Every dude in my unit with a fast car would go there
So many people buy Skylines when stationed in Germany

Talk about a helpless feeling trying to wave these guys off before they got involved.

Yea I was thinking what to do there.
My first thought was to drive ahead after he initially stopped, but I couldnt see in the rearview that well.
Getting out of the car I thought jump the rail and run down track acting like a mad man to stop the cars. Then I realized everyone is busting arse in a long turn

At that point you either along for the ride/slide or a spectator of carnage in front of you. Neither is good.

Do they start those guys at intervals or just let them all out at once?

Even with intervals you have cars and drivers of extremely different abilities. You literally have pure tourists in a Yaris running along getting passed by track day junkies in fully prepped 911 Cup cars mixed on with the guy that just picked up his 488 and puts on a helmet for the first time.
99.99% of the time people do what they are supposed to do. In this case an antifreeze soaked track ( more slippery than owl shite) and coming down to Hatzenbach which is fairly fast and somewhat blind was simply a recipe for disaster, it was the end of the day (running into the sun) and marshalls there are notorious for disappearing the last 15-20 minutes of a day. Over the years I have done about 100 laps there and there was probably never a lap I didn't nearly poop my pants. It has gotten MUCH worse in the last 10 years because cars are getting faster and "everyone" has 1000 laps on a game console and thinks they know exactly how much speed they can carry through places like the fuchsrohre.

They have amateur marshall's on track for some of the course.

Poor guy halfway through pulls to the left then gets CRUSHED just a little bit later.

Posted on 11/13/17 at 9:17 pm to Obtuse1
It's not called The Green Hell for nothing.

The crash full vid is awesome, frustrating, really long as the cars pile up.
The guy who tried to get folks to slow down even worked to get another driver onto the safer side of the safety railing.

Clios, Megans, Focus RS and the like mainly. A handful of laps in E46 and E92 M3s and 6 laps in a 981 GTS. IN all honesty, the slow cars are more fun and less intense and you feel more accomplished at the end of the lap. Plus even the 981 Cayman GTS is about $300 a lap. Last time I was there in 2015 10 laps in a GT3 RSR was getting close to $5000. You can run a Clio for about 15% of that.

That's awesome man. I'm jealous!
"GT3 RSR was getting close to $5000" I think I would pay it. Love that car.
