John Brady on the radio team

I am trying to wrap my mind around this. If I got fired from a job the last thing I would want to do is come back to the same organization in a lesser capacity.

He's in a completely different station in life right now. And I'm sure the self-reflection afforded by his phone not ringing with coaching offers has made him more willing to do something like this.
I just want to know how he is on the call.

Listened to the first 5 minutes. He was good. His voice is familiar and he did a good job describing the action particularly in regards to what both teams were trying to do defensively.

It isn't as uncommon as you think. Richard Williams does color for Mississippi State broadcasts. I am sure there are others. Times change and people change. I don't think Brady ever harbored any ill will toward LSU. I think it is cool that he is back. Maybe Les will be LSU's football color guy some day.

I really don't think he wants to coach again. He probably has enough money saved to live off of (unless his ex-wives took it all)

Most coaches end up being fired at some point. Doesn't mean they will forever hold resentment against that school.

He's retired. This is just so he keeps active. Not a full time job

I like coach Brady. Yeah...he was kind of a dick back in the day but I think all has been forgiven. I missed Brady's coaching the past 10 years.

Here's some money, all you have to do is talk on LSU basketball gameday... yeah turn that down... he looks happy being color analyst for the team he loves.... plus like the other guy said, he probably doesnt need the money or having the headache of being a coach..

I don't know or care about Brady, but I do know that Chris Blair needs to stop that "...20, 15, 10, 5" and the "..5,4,3,2,1" crap. Sounds horrible, especially after the runner has already been in the end zone.

Brady didn't want to leave LSU. His emotional press conf. after being fired was evidence of that. However, I think years of self-reflection (and no other big schools looking to hire him) made him realize that his acerbic personality is what got him run from LSU...just 1.5 seasons removed from taking them to the Final Four.
Just listening to him speak on the radio the last few years makes it appear as if he is tired of the coaching grind and is content with where he is in life, mistakes and all. Hell, he would come on a talk LSU basketball a bit even while he was still the coach at Ark. St. I don't think he has any hard feelings for LSU and realizes HE was a big reason for any disconnect when he was here.
Now he can still talk basketball, but do it in a stress free setting. I think it also says a lot about the confidence of Will Wade. Brady is clearly LSU's second best coach over the last 50 years. He's the only guy (outside of Brown) to get LSU to the point that Wade hopes to get them. Yet, Wade clearly doesn't seem to care that Brady is a part of the program and is not worried about Brady "looking over his shoulder". This is Wade's program that he wants to turn into a giant and he's not worried about all that came before him

Its good to have the color commentary presented through a coach's lens.
Time and distance have given Brady perspective on how he may have handled things differently at LSU on and off the court. Time should also give LSU fans an appreciation of the job Brady did under some difficult circumstances. The Brady tenure certainly eclipses the nine seasons since his departure.

He loves LSU and despite how fans hated him for some reason he never hated us. He knows he made mistakes as a person and wanted to be around the program again.

I actually agree with you. He often calls the play after it has already happened. Very annoying.

He sounded good, a lot different perspective coming from a veteran coach than from a former player's perspective. He was detailed in describing the offensive and defensive play sets and the why and how those sets are successful or not. He was also not as emotional or as dull as some color analysts we've had before, Ricky Blanton was the worst

I thought he was great, especially for the first game. Didn't try too hard to interject every single possession, but had really good insight to add.
He's also good to have to add what Blair can't - LSU historical perspective. He broke out an Ethan Martin reference that I could appreciate, that Blair had no clue who he was talking about.
Overall, I enjoyed him being on the broadcast more than any other color guy they've ever had for hoops.

Can't be much worse than Jack Hunt, Jack Hunt on one of biggest plays in LSU History. Better yet, Harvey Williams given the ball he cuts right, he has a big hole, he is going, going. Tackled for a 2 yard gain. That was Jim. I thought Jim was better at basketball than anything else.

Brady is three coaches removed from his firing. It's not really a big deal. He knows LSU, and if he wants to get into radio in a major conference, LSU is the place.

He is very good. Helps my no-basketball-strategy-knowing arse understand what they are doing/trying to do.
He also brings unique perspective of LSU Basketball in years past. Little tidbits here and there and references to guys who played under him add to the experience.
I liken it to having Deuce on the color for the Saints. He does ramble a bit but his insight into the Saints as well as football knowledge is a good blend.

Think I actually like Blair more on hoops broadcasts. He and Brady did well together.
