BOUTTE, La. — For some prospects, the early signing period can’t come soon enough.

Such is the case with Louisiana’s most prolific athlete, Pooka Williams. The longtime Kansas commit recently announced his intentions to sign his letter of intent on Dec. 20, the first day of the newly-implemented early signing period.

Of course, with an urgency to sign on the dotted line comes some form of intrigue. The 3-star athlete earned an offer from LSU at the beginning of the fall and has drawn the attention of coach Ed Orgeron. As the pressure mounts on the Tigers to keep Williams in-state, the dynamic Hahnville (La.) High School standout has grown even more confident of where he’ll sign in just more than a month.

“I just want to get the process over with. I want to continue to play Hahnville football and just get to signing day and get it out of the way,” Williams told SEC Country on Friday after amassing 305 yards and scoring 5 touchdowns in his team’s first-round playoff win.

As far as where he’ll sign, the answer is clear — Kansas.

LSU continues to try and cut into the Jayhawks’ lead, but the late offer remains an issue. However, Orgeron’s affinity for Williams paired with area recruiter Mickey Joseph’s touch has the Tigers still in contention.

“I’ll be talking to Coach Mickey now and then. He calls me and we talk,” Williams said. “LSU is still in my top [schools]. Kansas was just loyal to me and I want to be loyal back to them. He [Joseph] tells me to keep it up, keep my grades up and stay the course and that he still wants me bad. He’s told me a couple of times [about Orgeron wanting him] and that means a lot, but like I was saying, they were here then left and then came back when I got my grades together.”

“They’re still in my mind,” he added, “and it’ll be a hard decision on Dec. 20.”

Just curious when we will have a top recruit story here that ends with and them wanting to sign with LSU. Can't remember over the last several years where we've had this many threads about recruits not wanting to sign with LSU.
I was pro O when we hired him, because of his recruiting genius. I just can't remember a year when we struggled with so many recruits.

i am hoping him signing with Kansas means we get Watkins...Jason...Keys...and Joiner meaning a lot of offensive production out of those guys leaving little room for pooka. If we dont get any of those guys or even just one and no pooka then

is it a committable offer? reading the tea leaves, LSU is recruiting him but doesn't appear to be making a hard push due to grades. IF he's got his grades in order it seems there would be a few more major programs after him because he's obviously talented.

I see Kansas being ground zero for kids signing in the early period and being burned by an assistant coach leaving.

It's going to be hilarious to watch. All these kids that could have gone to good programs being hoodwinked by Tony Hull and that lady from NOLA and then getting stuck going to fricking Kansas.

According to that article he does have his grades together. According to someone on here last week who claimed to talk to two of his teachers he's going to have to go to a juco. Who knows.

Also, the headline is he knows exactly where he's signing, but the last line he says it's going to be a tough decision. Which is it?

I think you're just choosing to focus on the recruits who we're having to make up ground with.

What about the Tae Provens article last week? What about Chris Curry? What about Chassen Hines reaffirming his commitment over the weekend? How about one of the best athletes in the state, Kenan Jones being committed since May? What about us leading for Patrick Surtain Jr. for over a year. How about us leading for Terrace Marshall? What about us turning Anthony Cook from a slam dunk for Texas into postponing his announcement because he needed more time to consider us?

There are more positive stories out there than negative ones, you just have to be willing to see them.

Nope. Yes THAT good.

He's the new Slade Bolden of the recruiting board.

If they miss out on him

Pooka, play for the boot. Stay a Fighting Tiger. Stay purple and gold.

I’m “THAT” guy... just reported what I heard directly from two VERY reliable teachers at HHS. But we will all know when we know for sure. I’m hopeful he can pick them up and make good by becoming a Tiger. But maybe it’s the popular JUCO in Kansas (same one Mett came from), haha.

I know NOTHING more than the answer I received when asking these sources. That was about 3 weeks ago now.

No way he signs with Kansas if he has other options. Does he not have an adult in his life that can mentor him? Kansas is the worst P5 school program and it really isn't close.

This was suppose to be a turnaround year for the Jayhawks and they'll go winless against the FBS.

Forget about Hull leaving, who's to say their HC is kept around? Dude will be 3-33 at the end of the season as HC at Kansas.

Two of his three wins are against FCS schools.

We don't really know that yet. It seems like that's maybe how it's going to work, but we don't know for sure.

This new signing period was put in for the kids that know where they want to go and are essentially committing to a school, not a coach. This was how it was sold to get it passed. I don't know how comfortable they're going to be going from zero to college basketball with one early signing period.

I wasn't meaning to imply you were making anything up, but I can see how my post came across that was. I was just saying there was conflicting information out there. And honestly, I kind of tend to believe the teachers. Because of course the player is going to say it's all good.

Yep, no problem at all. And knowing these 2 teachers as well as I do, I absolutely trust their opinion. It’s an informed opinion, but they still might not know the full story as well.
