I remember. Glorious! The class that really made it was Clayton, Spears, Hill! I feel like that cemented it.

My point was that the guys I listed all could have been program changers and guys we could have landed. Pre-Saban...too bad. I was responding to the idea that we haven’t lost too many guys from state that have broken our backs, which is pretty much true in recent years.

Did you know that Larry Fitzgerald almost joined that Clayton class?

Well, I wasn't going back before the Saban day's, he changed the perception of LSU football and since his days at LSU, most of the top rated players in LA. have gone to LSU. There's a whole lot more than those if you go back far enough. But yea, except for maybe Anthony Thomas, LSU had room for other's. Only reason I wouldn't say losing Thomas is LSU had Kevin Faulk and Cecil Collins for Thomas's first 2 years of college and Rodell Mealy, Labrandon Toefield and Domminic Davis the last two years of Thomas's college days. Not saying he wasn't any good, just saying LSU was solid at the RB position at that time.

People in Winnfield back in those days said Thomas was never going to LSU. Don't remember the deal but he was never going.

Also Jamie Spencer who was All American out of Ouachita. 1989 I think. He was aways Notre Dame was never going to LSU.

It was never anything anti Lsu when it came to Anthony Thomas. It was more Michigan in the hunt for a national title, Lsu having a great backfield (so did Michigan), being a Big 10 smash mouth type of back, and knowing that his best chance at success was getting away from small town influences that will drag you down more often then they will lift you up.
