Looking Back : BDP

So nearly a year ago, we fired BDP and did not fill the ST spot. Kickoffs have slightly improved, but does that offset the decline in recruiting without him? BBQ jokes aside, recruiting does seem to have seen a dip this year, something that was supposed to be Coach O's forte. Do you think it was worth it in the end?

Absolutely worth. He was a liability on the field where if mattered.

It's amazing that you can get rid of your ST coordinator and actually improve.

Perhaps recruiting has "dropped" because it's a down year in the state.
Recruiting also is far from over this year.

The sriracha-infused rib rub is missed though.

I think so...special teams were costing us a lot of games last year and I don't think that is the case any longer.
good point about recruiting, though. may have dropped off because of him, Les, or maybe the general instability of coaching changes is the cause.

Not necessarily BDP’s fault, but I’ll never forgive Domingue’s kickoff inside of 1 minute against Bama in 2014

Down year or not, Kansas should not have 2 of the top 10 instate.

And won't!!

He had to go. The special teams were just awful, despite loads of talented athletes, and they showed no sign of improvement over the season despite people raging about the obviously poor play.

Ok. I tried to take your post seriously and actually give an answer. You just exposed yourself as being a idiot though.

LOL are Peveto family members really still coming here to talk up Bradley Dale Peveto. Dude sucked and should have never been re-hired when Les brought him back. Peveto played a big factor in performance and Les getting fired.

I'm not saying his coaching was useful, I'm saying if we knew we were going to fire him and not even replace him, why not just keep him on staff solely for recruiting?

and not even replace him,
You think BDP only coached special teams for LSU? Nope. He coached olb AND special teams, but he was so shitty at both that when Orgeron took over he was told to focus solely on special teams and his olb duties were given to former grad assistant Dennis Johnson. Unfortunately for BDP, he sucked just as bad with more limited duties.
So, to recap, BDP was replaced. With Dennis Johnson. And Orgeron decided instead of having one position coach also coach special teams, he'd rather split the special teams duties up, since they are all fairly unique to each other, even though the personnel overlap some. This approach makes sense to me.
FYI - Very few college teams employ a dedicated special teams coach.

I agree. I never understood how on earth he got rehired after his gross incompetence in 2008.

Ok, let's look at this a different way then. Do you expect Coach O to make some hires around recruiting during this offseason? We lost BDP, Jabbar Juluke, and DC. 2 of which were rated as top 5 recruiters in 2016.

The thing that held Les' teams together through the years of shitty offense was an absolutely electric and powerful special teams unit. Once Peveto was hired and special teams went to shite starting in 2014 it was the end for Les. No longer could he rely on his punting unit flipping the field or his kick coverage team pinning teams back deep. Field goal kicking went to shite.
The decline of LSU's special teams play had a direct impact on Les being fired.

Branch out. Plenty of schools recruit nationwide.

If I've said once, I've said it a thousand times: BPD did not have relations with a turtle. Period.
