I blame the most selfish generation in history, gen-x, who has to have everything on their terms. It wasn't until more a few gen-x couples moved into my parent's neighbor became an "only trick treat on the Saturday before" neighborhood.

Easy hombre. That shite started with whatever generation that group is between Gen X and the boomers. The trunk or treat shite is out of control. The busing in is out of control. The trick or treating on a different day is out of control. Not sure how we leave this nonsense behind from here in out.

Late 80's, Redline with flight cranks, bear claw pedals and hoping for tricks over treats.

Our next door neighbors passed out Bible verses.

That was easier to remember than the houses who had all of the lights turned out and the ones who passed out suckers like the ones they gave you at the doctor's office.

The Halloween tradition the OP is talking about only goes back to the late 40s or 50s.

This more than anything changed everything. I noticed it in the late and early 90s. 80% of the kids were not from our neighborhood... I quit handing out candy.

Halloween was awesome when i was a kid. The week before we'd be on our bikes charting our course. Our parents would drink and neighbors had parties, those were good times.

Halloween is being stolen from today's children
Halloween has turned into a fragmented, watered down version of what is used to be. Instead of everyone trick or treating on Halloween night, parents take their kids to "safe zones" like churches or parking lots or down commercial streets where they can go collect candy while wearing a costume (I don't call that trick or treating). These events trypically aren't even on Halloween. Some towns schedule a night for trick or treating that's not even on Halloween night. Why!?

We are robbing our children of one of the most special times of being a child. There's nothing like trick or treating on Halloween night. Seeing mobs of kids all walking the dark streets at the same time, having nearly all houses in all neighborhoods with their lights on inviting trick or treaters, and being able to look forward to that night every year without having to ask "what night are we allowed to trick or treat this year?"

Halloween should not be a carefully planned, controlled event where old people force kids to engage in Halloween on the old people's terms. Halloween is Halloween and old people should deal with it and give the kids the Halloween they got when they were kids!

Agreed...it's a War on Halloween.

It all started when the PC Police stopped the Deke guys from tossing the neighborhood kids into the pit filled with mud / dye / piss. Been downhill since.
