Could somebody with a 10 year old DUI conviction get a job as a cop or nah?

I have heard a DUI in a lifetime is an immediate disqualifier to become a cop, but I kind of find that hard to believe if enough time has passed.

Give up, baw. You're never gonna join the force.

lol Sorry about not getting accepted into police academy

Yeah, its possible. I asked my friend who is a cop about that. He told me you'd have to wait a few years, get everything taken care of (which by now im hoping you have), go through the screening and all that.

I’d say...check the website of the agency

Its all about putting time between the arrest and the interview. Speaking for LE in Illinois, a DUI 10 years ago would not automatically disqualify you.

Given some of the people NOPD has hired, I can't see how that DUI would be a disqualifier for them.

I know a guy who had a DUI and became a cop, he waited a few years and he had some pretty solid family connections with his department.

The biggest thing that disqualifies people is drug use, and I mean recent drug use. This includes "study aids" a lot of college kids use without a prescription such as Adderall and similar medications.

I got hired and I killed a man during my interview.
No, for real, it depends on the agency. I'm on the federal side and it's pretty tough, even with the years gone by, but I've seen it on the state/local side.

Hate to break it to you but even an expunged arrest can be found in a thorough background investigation. Your best bet is give it time and then be completely honest about what happened. Use it as a way to show how much you have matured and learned from it.

Is it NOPD because I know of someone who just joined and he got a DUI a few years back. I don't think they care as long as you've gotten your shite straight. Now if you want to travel to Canada, that's a different kettle of fish. You pretty much have to promise them your first born.

Like an arrest for it or showing up on a drug test? Amphetamines have a half life of like 2 days

Why hasn't it been expunged? Like anything else with the government, they're not exactly aces at background checks.

Oh shite, for a second I believed you! Thx for clearing that up.

You would have to have some inside help with that one.

No more like denying all drug use then flunking the polygraph on the drug question. Truth is we expect that people will have some drug use in their background. It's really how long ago, how many times and what kind of drugs.

Colon Kapernik and the other kneelers would consider that a job qualifier, except they couldn't spell qualifier, or articulate it properly.
