Great wins are always better than losses in great situations. The alternatives you present are apples and oranges.

I don't think that LSU will beat Alabama this year, but I can visualise that it may be possible.

Bama lost to Louisiana Tech one year and went on to win the SEC Championship and finish 5th in the nation before the bowls.

Who the frick thought LSU was making the playoff preseason anyway?

hell yea jackass. we ain't winning a title so let's kick some arse against the teams we can.

No. it's a sign of terrible coaching. How do you have a team capable of beating Auburn but lose to Troy. It's one thing to say how'd you beat Florida and lose to State. At least State has SEC talent and you can argue "any given Saturday". But there's no way LSU should ever lose to Troy. It's like your wife fricking another guy then buying you a new set of golf clubs as an apology. Would those new Callaways really make you feel better?

I agree we were are out of the playoffs and no that loss to Troy is not bigger than I realize. Unless you believe LSU will win out in its remaining SEC schedule your point is not valid.
Maybe the Auburn win is bigger than you realize.

O. Unless you have proven that you can win at a sustained rate.
For example Coach Arnsbager lost to MOo State and Tulane and Miami of Ohio - ugh. But he won the SEC.

It is not a zero sum game considering that you have to develop talent and take your lumps. That is how I view losses. It sucks, but I’m willing to accept them if we continue to see improvement and learning. The answer is yes.

According to you we were going to win the whole fricking thing

LSU doesn't control their own destiny. If they win out they still won't make the playoff

In O's case, our terrible losses set the bar so low that our great win has people excited to MAYBE achieve the heights that we fired our old coach for reaching every year.
So shite, who knows.

I was over the Troy loss at the end of the Auburn game. If the team cannot possibly atone for the losses, why even follow them, write the season off and find another hobby.

I just posed a question, no reason to hurl an insult lol
Thanks to everyone who has thoughtfully responded. I was just thinking about it today and was curious others rationale behind it. I agree that for a young team and a new coach, as long as we learn from the loss and rarely (or never) see their like again, then the wins do overcome it. I see both sides though. Its an interesting question where for most people, the outcome is directly correlated to the situation.
I guess 2007 is the best example of that scenario. We suffered two terrible losses, yet we won a national championship. Had we not gotten to play for the title, I can’t imagine what the backlash would have been. For most people, the wins overcame the losses because we played for the title. For some folks, they still don’t give Les credit for that championship. Or if they do, still use it as an argument against him that he was the luckiest sob ever.
Thanks again for all of the clever and well thought out perspectives. Nice to have some thought and dialogue every once in a while in this place ??

If LSU somehow wins out and Bama wins out less the loss to LSU, then we can still make the playoffs. That hypothetical includes an SEC Championship win.
But that Troy loss is still bad. Like really really bad. It'd be easier to overlook if we hadn't also been hammered by Miss State and fell 0 - 20 against Auburn before coming back
I know a lot of you are sick of hearing it and just want to bask in the wins but this team still has a lot to prove. Ole Miss is a great starting point to show that Coach O is turning things around from whatever he let slip with the team this summer

I’m not sure this is true. Tech actually beat Bama twice in the late 90s/early aughts, but I don’t think Bama won the SEC either year.
Eta—I was wrong. Happened in ‘99. I honestly don’t remember that. I just assumed Florida won it again that year(Bama beat them 34-7 in the SECCG). In fairness, I was drunk pretty much all of 1999.
