NFL Owners Taking Serious Notice Of Falling TV Ratings

"A new column by The MMQB’s Albert Breer details some of the stats related to the NFL’s dropping TV ratings, and the way it affected a private meeting between players and owners on Tuesday and Wednesday at the NFL League Office in New York. He says the falling TV ratings “might just be the first proof” that the continued “discord” over player protests is negatively impacting everyone’s bottom line.
Due to the ratings figures and the owners’ reaction to them, Breer deduced that recent comments made by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones – which threatened to punish players who do not stand during the national anthem – were actually meant to connect with disgruntled TV viewers, those who are deciding to tune out the NFL in response to players’ decisions to kneel or otherwise protest during the anthem.
Nielsen reported earlier this week that the NFL’s TV ratings were down by 7.5 percent compared to the first six weeks of the 2016 season. But numbers reported to the owners at the meeting were even more alarming
The figures presented to the owners on Tuesday and Wednesday are one of the biggest signs yet that the NFL is losing viewers at a rate that goes beyond simple cord-cutting, or even a diminished on-field product. That owners chose to take serious notice of the ratings drop this week, during a meeting that was supposed to be about giving the players a chance to address social issues and their related protests, speaks volumes about how the ongoing controversy is affecting their viewership."

I haven't tuned in to a single NFL game this season. I watch to be entertained. If they want to engage in politics, they should move the games to CSPAN.

I cancelled my Sunday Ticket earlier this afternoon after hearing old Rog in the news yesterday. Gave him a couple of extra weeks to see what would happen. Nothing happened so, bye.

The NFL has about as much of a chance of resurrecting their Player's former lofty status in the minds of their Fans...as does Harvey Weinstein with the Hollywood Crowd. They are tainted, and outside of TRUE repentance and serious service toward addressing the issues which buried them...they are toast.

This is just the start of it...
Just wait until owners can't keep giving big signing bonuses for trades or on draft day. Its coming.

NFL is only concerned with brands /sponsors and they can't seem to remember who their customer base is. The quality of their product has diminished as the teams try to herd all of the prima donnas. It is a mess.

Is their own fault. Turned the league over to thuggish conduct, too bad, could care less less they are reaping what they have sown

If it wasn't for fantasy football it would be way worse.

Exactly. Over the years we've seen many of these athletes acting like fool or worse. It's just adds up and over the same time some people question their value. These "protests" are just adding fuel to the fire. Regardless of the protest, I'm tired of grown men playing a child's game acting stupid and getting paid enormous amount of money. Too many other forms of entertainment out there for me or others to be saddled with just the NFL.

Until they fire Goodell and make a rule requiring players stand, they're clearly not taking it all that seriously.
They are still more concerned about the left wing smear media and the BLM thugs than they are their business.

Haven't watched a single second of NFL this season and won't this season or any other season.
I was a casual NFL watcher before, so quitting was easy for me.

College football, baseball, and basketball is superior to their professional counterparts in every way, IMO.

I'm all for punishing the NFL but I'm amazed that easy and safe access to free HD illegal streams is never mentioned as a reason for the drop.
2 years ago you needed a Mac and computer savvy to get a grainy, glitchy foreign feed.
Now it's so easy to get an HD feed of whatever game you want that my 78-year old dad streams the Saints without my help.
