The most pathetic media gotcha in history was not against a republican, but this

Regardless of the importance of the issues or the candidate's troubling view on the matter, this totally inappropriate and ridiculous debate question was a joke. To make matters worse, his response was what was criticized, not the question itself
Was just watching the 80s on CNN and they showed it

Well that was certainly random.

he fricked up that question big time. We spent almost an hour going through this particular question when I was at LSU.
He could have knocked it out of the park, but he whiffed.

IF you're morally against the death penalty, what answer should you give to the question?

It ended up being a good question because it elicited an answer that gave significant insight into the nature of the man.
It was not necessarily intended as a gotcha question... it was likely intended to give him a chance to show his emotion and humanity.

The media continues to ask "gotcha" questions like this to Republicans constantly and Dems never face them.
It's ironic that the most famous one in history happened to go to a Democrat on the big stage.
Stupid questions like that are the opposite of good journalism, no matter who they are asked of.

Am I missing something? That was one of the best responses to an attempt to trick one into an emotional response that I've seen. I don't care where one stands on an issue, I prefer someone's stance not be dependent on emotion.

Dude, his response caused a total meltdown in the political world
It's literally taught in classes about how not to debate
I don't know why

quote:I actually kind of liked it. I thought it was an attempt to see how strong one's stances is when faced with an emotional scenarios that can ellict some continue dissonance. Of course, I liked it because of the response was extemely logical, which apparently the opposite of what people thought at the time so who knows.

Bernie Shaw intended this as a softball for Dorkface to hit the moral stitches loose.
But the moron couldn't even sit in a tank without looking stupid.

If you are morally against the death penalty, how would you have responded?
