Am I missing something? That was one of the best responses to an attempt to trick one into an emotional response that I've seen. I don't care where one stands on an issue, I prefer someone's stance not be dependent on emotion.

If he would have stated that he personally would want the man dead, but as for structuring policy we have to look at what works, makes us safer and lowers crime. I personally agree with you that I don't need that window dressing but the general populace does.

If a debate moderator asked hillary question the following question:

"if a syrian refugee sexually assaulted Chelsea, your daughter, would you reconsider your position on admitting refugees?"

a media firestorm would ensue. The moderator would be fired

I’m morally against the death penalty but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel some people deserve to die based upon heinous crimes. However I think we all agree that our penal system shouldn’t be based on the feelings of someone who has recently been the victim of that crime. Driving slow in the fast lane would be punished with draw and quartering if that were the case.
I guess Duke should have shown himself to be somewhat human before he went straight to the Vulcan logic?

If you are morally against the death penalty, how would you have responded?

How about something a little on the Butch side.

"Well Bernard, this is an important moral issue for me. This is something I have talked about with many intelligent people, including my wife. I have thought about it long and hard. I have also prayed about it and asked for God's enlightenment. I finally came to the conclusion that while I would personally like to see this villain killed, I cannot in good conscience do so. My wife completely agrees, and we both pray for the victims of predators who could commit such barbaric acts!"

Fortunately, for me that's all bullshite, I have a moral problem with taking innocent human life.
