if I were at the game, I'd stand for the Anthem and not think anything about it.

i've said this before but I've seen people playing on their phones or not saluting the flag like pretty much everyone else (not just at a Saints game either). But I guess those folks get a pass, they paid for their ticket right?

i liked this opening quote from Dan Wetzel in an article he wrote after Pence left the Colts game.

quote:

Like every American, Vice President Mike Pence is free to be offended by whatever he chooses to find offensive. Political correctness comes from every direction and has become the base emotion of modern society – if you don’t agree with me you should be silenced, fired, walked out on, or worse.

The inability to catch the sarcasm in a clearly ridiculous post in regards to an already ridiculous topic is fascinating.

frick 'EM for bringing their shithole politics into the arena of high dollar paying fans. Are you still going to ask how they're disrespectful?
So someone having a different political opinion from you is disrespectful? NFL players are entertainers but they are still human beings with opinion not mindless robots who live to serve you. You cannot be mad at people not in politics using their platform to speak out on political issues when you elected a president who did the exact same thing.

Lol the post was a joke at the people getting mad at people kneeling before the anthem but apparently that went way over your head.

He is correct on that. I was there.

If you follow the timeline..

1) Players took a knee and the fans started booing.
2) The moment of silence started...I don't think the fans in attendance even heard the announcement over the boos.
3) The players stood back up for the anthem and received claps and cheers.

I picture it like this:

1) "I can't believe these jerks disrespect the flag by playing politics and not quietly standing at attention during the anthem - I'm going to scream profanity and boo the hell out of them during the anthem to prove my own political point!"

2) "booooooo - frick you for not standing!"

3) "Oh, wait, I did that during a moment of silence for a fallen officer? Damn players forcing me into this!"

Yeah I guess it did because I've seen people make that exact type of argument and not as a joke. I'll happily take my sarcasm L for the day though.

This guy just doesn’t get it. What is he going to say when the boos continue every time the players kneel?

I was at the game. CSP is right. The crowd started booing when players kneeled prior to the start of the anthem, because they were assuming the players were going to kneel THRU the anthem. The crowd immediately started cheering and clapping once the players stood up for the anthem itself. They also cheered quite loudly when the team did anything positive during the game, fwiw.

They took a knee before anything was ever mentioned about the fallen NOPD officer. I fully believe that had it been conveyed to the team before hand that was going to happen, no one would have taken a knee

Agreed.

Bunch of fat, racist peeps who are dog whistling their racism through their faux outrage and complaining... Envious that they weren't talented enough to play and make millions themselves. They see the amounts of money the players make and they feel that money should shut them up. So they take the side of billionaires over millionaires.

Pence most certainly has that right.

But personally I don't want to pay to go to a game to watch the VP stage a political stunt at taxpayer expense.

You'd be WRONG!
That trip was planned over a year ago. It was to honor Peyton manning.
Way to mega-phone out CNN's talking points. It's not difficult to THINK for yourself if you try.

Someone should tell the VPs spokesperson who said weeks.

The statue and day of honor wasn't even announced or decided on a year ago. Glad he got to see it though. Who could have predicted the 49ers would kneel? Sad!

You can believe whatever you choose. I think they still would have taken a knee.

And when the moment of silence was announced and the picture of the officer was on the giant screens they stayed on their knees. Staying on their knees is what caused the boos.

With the giant screens it is pretty hard to miss what is going on, even if you are as cognitively deficient as an average NFL player.

My god are you people programmed to believe EVERYTHING you are told by the President and Fox News? The fact that you actually believe this is just mind-blowing because the statue wasn't even announced until recently. You actually believe he was going to a 49ers game and was shocked when players kneeled. He went so he could walk out. He even had a pre planned photo op so he could immediately post him standing for the anthem on social media. If you cannot see this as painfully obvious propaganda and an embarrassing PR stunt, you're hopeless.

Ironic since you're doing the exact same thing but on Fox News side. BOTH Fox News and CNN are equally as ridiculous and neither tell the truth. You shouldn't need a news channel to tell you that what Pence did was stupid, you just need to use common sense.

It is actually much harder to hear when you are down that low and the video boards are not as noticeable since they are not at your eye level. I had no idea there was a moment of silence happening. The players also had no idea there was a moment of silence. They did not intentionally kneel during it and they did exactly what they did in London.

No. I'm going to go and boo the hell out of them when they interject politics.

It's not reasonable to bring a divisive issue up out of place and expect those that disagree with you and those who just dislike the issue being raised out of place to not voice their displeasure.
