It took me a few views to catch how sobering this was, but him revealing to Mac why he hired him: because he's white, and the jury is white, you know how to get me out of this mess. Stop pretending we're equals.

The acting in this film is eye-rollingly bad and so over the top.

I still don't understand how people look back on this movie as some classic.

Like most Schumacher stuff, it hasn't aged well. Spacey is laughable and the courtroom scenes are ridiculously over the top and unrealistic.

But I'll always like it. The setting is great and one of those movies where you can feel the Southern heat and humidity. McConaughey is great, a level headed regular guy that tries to do the right thing as opposed to Bullock's cartoonish SJW.

Great book, could be a much better adaptation today imo.

I think it worked a lot better in the nineties.

I remember being turned on as a 10 year old when Sandra Bullock was in her black panties. Of course, as an adult, the scene is extremely troubling and disturbing to watch, but apparently I didn't care back in the day.

My biggest problem with this movie is it appears that nobody in this novel in Mississippi , has access to air conditioning.
Everyone is so sweaty 24/7.
