Silver lining in all this

I hate seeing this team suck but at least O destroyed the team fast so we can get rid of him and Alleva fast. If he had a fluke good season this year going 10-2 off of Mile's recruits similar to what Muschamp did at Florida we'd be stuck with him for at least 5 years. And all the retards would point to this one season when things started going south as a reason to keep him as he slowly killed our program. By destroying the team so fast O is like chemotherapy, yeah it's making us puke but it'll help us get rid of the cancer killing our football team: Joe Alleva.

It clearly offers a season to rebuild as well as provide on the field action for freshman athletes (if they are utilized)

This is looking at it in a glass quarter full kind of way. I like it, and agree. This train wreck of a season should get the wheels of change in motion very quickly.

I really thought we would suffer a gradual decline. This going to hell so fast may keep O from hanging around long.

Failing fast is definitely preferable to bleeding out over the next five years. My biggest fear after the Orgeron hire was that he would typically have 8-4 or 7-5 type seasons which over time would become the norm for LSU football. I'll take the current mess over that scenario every time. LSU has proven that it can compete, year after year, with anyone in the country and that needs to continue being the goal going forward.

Great analogy! But it's not just the football program. It's the entire athletic dept that's suffering from the illness that is Alleva.
He's mishandled coaching salaries so badly that LSU is going to need a shipload of money to bail out just the football team. And they're doing so after Joe absolutely pissed away money by giving Johnny Jones and Les needless extensions, along with guaranteeing Ogeron's contract.
Here's a new analogy -- Joe Alleva is "New Coke". A giant expensive business mistake. LSU needs someone, somewhere who understands that though it may not be pleasant to say, the LSU athletic dept. is a multi-million dollar business not simply just a university dept in charge of extracurricular activities. Therefore, like Coke, it's time to "eat" the huge financial mistake for the betterment of the future of the business.

The other list, the one where major setback cause a "reset" followed by consistent top-10, not even championship, seasons within 4 years:
nothing off the top of my head

We have to start looking at it this way! We have no choice! They have a meeting to all get on the same page? Are you fricking kidding me, 5 games into the 2017 season??
That right there says it all! A head coach that doesn't know his head from his arse!

I remember the stunned euphoria I was experiencing in Bryant-Denny when Curley Hallman somehow beat Alabama instantly turning to nauseous dispair when a Bama fan pointed out "yeah, but now you're stuck with Hallman for another season." I don't think we will have any such issues with O.

Another good thing might be that it speeds up the process of getting great again.
I dont remember who said it, but the theory is that its always best to avoid following a great coach. Its ideal to follow a great coach's successor. The coach after O will have just about nothing to live up to in order to be an improvement.

lol if you think O "destroyed" this team. Like just now, thru 5 games. That's funny

I agree with this. I'm afraid that we are in quite a hole financially. We are currently buying out Les, and JJones and will add 12M for O and who knows what for his coordinators and other coaches. On top of that we would need to pay top dollar to attract a decent AD and of course top dollar to get a coach that is just a decent upgrade. I don't see how it will all be afforded. This is a financial abyss that will also be exaggerated by the loss of revenue that will come out of this and next years disasters on the football field. It all needs to be done, but will be very painful. I can see us going into quite a money hole for years to come.

If O doesn’t get a split over the next 2 weeks, Alleva could be in a world of trouble.
An 0-3 SEC start? Alleva could be gone by Thanksgiving.
