Yeah only college kids. Sounds good.

I get spam emails every single day. I'd say 80% or more are from .edu addresses.

Are you equating an education to a college degree?

Facebook was actually useful when it first opened at UT and only had college people on it. You could input your class schedule and instantly see who else had the same classes. There wasn't a bunch on garbage on it. I was there when it started in 04/05 time frame when it was still thefacebook.com. It was nice.
MySpace on the other hand was a wasteland of idiocy. Restricted social media is usually a lot more useful than open nonsense. You can even see that on forums. Forums dedicated to certain topics are very useful, forums open to anything and everything, not much so. TD walks the line on this a lot.

That would be so much worse.

Good plan. Let's let 18-24 years olds be the official online voice that represents America. That should go over well.
When I originally joined Facebook it was used as site to advertise house parties. Once they allowed people other than students to join is when they allowed ignorant people to spew their bs opinions.

I can tell you that Facebook certainly was better.

.edu or the official college email handles.
When FB started out with this it was the best thing ever. When they start letting everyone in, it went to shite quick. But if I was Zuck I wouldn't gave a frick either because instant Billionaire shite.

Only .Edu's from tier 1 universities that have grants in more than 1 field. Sea, space, land, air. Need at least 2

Right. Great function for a social networking platform.

Come on. Identity politics, microagressions, safe spaces, privilege, cultural appropriation, racism behind every action and word are concepts born and baked on campus and propagated via social media.
If we could restrict the .edu accounts to STEM students only, then I'm in. But there has been no monopoly on dumbass opinions by the non-college educated only. When you allow all idiots to have a voice, then all idiots will want one.

Purely to create a discussion.
Some have brought up opinion of how much better things were in the beginning of Facebook.
Also, once you had a school email-one would remain on Facebook. So, as time continued on, more than just college students age 18-22 would be logged in.
These days, Facebook highlights idiocracy & even celebrates it. The educated end up silent/avoiding the conversations. Thus allowing idiot speak to flourish.

In this scenario wouldn't all these things be restricted to their peers? College aged kids could talk about this all they want, but anybody outside of college wouldn't hear about this. In this scenario of only .edu users on social media, Gravy, helmet, kibbles, and all the other useless sjw's wouldn't exist outside of their own social circle.

I'm pretty sure the world would be better off without social media.

Is the rest of the world following our newest regulation? If you restrict the network to isolate it from the rest of the tweeting and social networking world, then sure, no problem. But social media is global these days. I'd just assumed in this thread that the rest of the social media world would continue to exist as is, but we would only have .edu's providing our discourse. That's frightening, IMO.
