Was just reading another thread about how O has not been his usual self. He always used to get fired up and pump up the team, but now he looks more like Johnny Jones did on the sideline: bored and clueless. I think this attitude has begun to rub off on the players as well. Under Les (not saying I want him back at all), especially in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, we used to have a certain swag about us, and it showed on the field. We always came out of the gates rocking, and each unit, offense, defense, and ST, would feed off of big momentum gaining plays by one another. Thats not the case anymore. I hardly see teammates congratulating one another, they just jog back to the sideline like its no big deal. Maybe its just the personnel we have on the team, but I just feel like the players and coaches are not providing any energy for each other or the fans.

‘Swag’ comes from the players not the coach

Well if they are on this site, it's no wonder. I'm depressed after reading most of this crap and I'm not a player or coach.

Majority of content on this board was praising the team before that abortion of a game. There was zero excuse for them being lethargic as Orgeron stated.

These players are more concerned with individual stardom. Recruiting the intangibles has been lost.

Um, where were you those years? Les is known for this by players and recruits. I remember shooting basketball with Jarvis Jones after his visit to LSU and he said the same thing about CLM. Said the game was getting out of hand and LES just stood there and watched, digging in his ear and eating grass. Those 2 years are included.

Not defending O's demeanor last week, but CLM was the same, many even worse at times.

It seems to be there are no real leaders on the team.

People complained when he got the players too hyped and they got penalties, so...hard to have a jacked up team that’s 100% laser focused and makes no mistakes.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but my biggest surprise and disappointment comes from the lack of swag, cheerleading, and leadership by other players.

We've all had coworkers who are fine with sitting back and watching you do something the hard way, or wrong way, or stupid way... and they suck.

Should be a team where those people as somewhat outliers. Not the norm.

To me it is both a failure on some of the players AND coaches. Leaders aren't born, they are indeed made.

The enthusiasm aspect of Coach O is something I think everyone envisioned as being a positive intangible and a carryover from Miles' best years - personally, while I enjoy winning with whatever coach we have, it was extra special seeing Miles confront the media when he was on top and how he was able to motivate the players. I think a lot of us were expecting coach O to bring that same intangible, especially when you read how much the USC players adored him. Coach O appears to be trying to change his personna - in essence, erase some of the chest-beating characterization that is deemed acceptable in a role as a DC or DLine coach but not necessarily in a HC role. I'd like to see more of that fire - you can have discipline and be fiery at the same time. Screw the politically correct approach - be who you are - motivate your players - and be damned if the media and some snobs don't like it. I don't think they hired him to be a diplomat - they hired him to motivate, teach, and lead.

It still blows my mind how supposedly knowledgeable people can take a snapshot in time and make such generalized statements. The team is getting hammered 37-7 and I would hope they don't look enthused about it.

Guide did get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty while celebrating with a teammate after a TD against BYU...

I agree. If he's going to go down he might as well do it being himself. Break out the Red Bull and the bass drum.

Could be pure coincidence, but the lack of enthusiasm seemed to coincide with the return of Key. He looked absolutely listless all night. Could be he's just not in very good shape yet.

Guice definitely isn't one, as much as I hoped to see him step up.

Isn't that part of the problem, being themselves and not playing as a team. It's kind of a joke watching players celebrate and taunt while down 20+ points, in fact they looked like jackasses.

Any style of play (or attitude) can win games, I prefer the business like approach compared to what I've seen from O's 2017 Tigers. Maybe in 3 years we will be the new 80s Miami however I doubt it, rather we will be one of the many mediocre teams that continue to celebrate and taunt while down 20+ points to an underdog.

Perhaps he is playing the "never as good as your last win, and never as bad as your last loss" mentality? And he is just not good at it.
