While my number in the 1970 draft lottery was 071, my number for the 1971 draft lottery (for those born in 1951) was 130. They only drafted up to number 125 that year.

Your draft number

54

was called in 1970.

If your birthday was just 2 days earlier, your draft number would not have been called.

Still think its insane that they called the draft for a war of intervention all the way across the world.

knew a handful of guys that left in high school, for straight up patriotic reasons, when, if, they came back, they told everyone to run for the hills, don't go no matter what

I was born in 1949.

By Dec 1, 1969 I had been drafted, finished basic training and just started AIT.

You're right about this. Unless i was able to get wasted somehow. Numbing the anxiety away might have been the best bet.
