I am very thankful for the memories that Payton and Brees helped to bring to this city and franchise.

But that era is done. There was little energy and leadership from Brees tonight, CSP had a pretty abysmal night of playcalling overall and the creativity he was once lauded for is simply not there anymore.

This isn't a "one game thing", rather, something that's been brewing the past 2-3 years and ever so slowly inching towards the inevitable.

Easy bro. That was a top 5 NFL defense with 5 pro bowlers at home on MNF. You can't expect to light it up. The disappointment was our defense and their inability to get off the field and force punts.

8 or 9 plays of 20+ yards????? This loss is like most. On the defense.

Edit: 4 who downvoted. You're ok with giving up 200 yards passing at half time???? No pressure. Defense sucked.

CSP just refuses to evolve as a playcaller. Same tired crap every drive. If I as just some guy can tell what he'll call before he calls it, I know damn sure every football coach from JV on up in the entire country does.

Sean Payton will end up like Daniel Day Lewis, at the end of "There Will be Blood"

Tonight? It wasn't the last 3 7-9 seasons?

When CSP called for the 4th quarter FG down 17 in the red zone with a 4th and 2, I said, "he's been neutered."

This era ended against the 49ers when they let that weasel Alex Smith drive twice on them in 2011. Just like they were letting that mouth breather Bradford tonight. Frankly, I'm ready to move on. I'm tired of Payton, Brees, and that abomination we call a defense. Enough is enough. This team is nowhere near ready to compete and hasn't been for several years.

It was a terrible loss, not the end of the world or your life, the overreaction is a little over the top right now. They are gonna win and lose some games, lots of young guys with short memories, brees will play better with more snaps now; none of these guys on d have played together. I wouldn't expect the team to turn into world beaters, but it's not time to burn the world down.

15 more games in the season, haters gonna get tired

Sean has not been the same since the suspension. Same for the team.

this opener tonight was really disappointing.

I admit.. I took the cheese on the D from the preseason but as the game went on tonight.. it was clear they still have some of the same ole issues on that side of the ball.

the offense faced a good Vikings D but Strief's injury could end up being a big blow. Hopefully Snead will make a difference when he gets back. If Brees has to check down all the time to Kamara and Ingram its fixin' to be a long year.

It's been over for 4 years. Just paying a qb 24 million to go 7-9. Need to move on

It looked and felt nothing like the Saints we are use to. I don't know what that was. We've lost before but we didn't even run the two minute drill before half well.. something we always do well.

Yep. Texted my brother the same thing, I said this shite is stale and has passed SP by. I was actually fooled by the preseason thinking the D was good. What a disservice to Brees as they've wasted his prime years because they can't field even a mediocre fricking defense. 4 red zone 4 FG's doomed them. SP used to be innovative now he's predictable and lazy. Brees didn't even look that great for those 4 tries either. And of course watching the same WR continue to catch pass after pass sicken,y reminded me of Vernon Davis.

I'm so tired of watching piss poor defense that I may just save the heartache and not be so tied into them. Of course my hope is when we get players back they make that leap and play like we saw. But what I saw tonight makes me feel like nothing too great is going to happen.

Defense made Sam Bradford look exceptional. 346 yards passing....Sam Bradford?

Saints offense sucked arse and the play calling was bad, but that defense was terrible.

Afraid it will be a loooooooong season and time to turn the page on the CSP era.
