Ain't good.
Getting crushed after hours:

Equifax said data on 143 million U.S. customers was obtained in a breach.
The breach was discovered July 29.
Personal data including birth dates, credit card numbers and more were obtained in the breach.

The "offer" to monitor credit is not from Equifax, it is also a scam that is part of the breach. Do NOT put your real information into the site.
No matter what you input, the response is the same. Your browser should have detected the bad security certificate when you entered your information.
Per Brian Krebs, who broke the story and is the leading online security resource.
Also, Krebs also says credit monitoring is worthless in any case, freezing your credit is the only worthwhile solution. See linked story, but comments have the most valuable information, including the discovery of the phishing from the Equifax fake website.

Equifax yesterday: "We see you had 1 late credit card payment 4 years ago, sorry you can't buy a house with a competitive rate for another 3 years"
Equifax today: "We exposed 143 million+ database records in July (and our execs sold their stock the next day then waited 2 months to tell anybody). shite happens, kthxbai!"
See my post above, do NOT use the fake monitoring website to see if you're affected.

We literally typed in GargoyleNutz and 6 random Numbers, and it said we were affected. lol.
Take that for what it's worth.

UPDATE: I got my free services from equifax promised because I was affected.
It is horrible. It says that you can do a SocSec check and this part of the package does not work. It says that their is no acct. activity to report and I know that is a lie because I just took out a loan. It does nothing really but show you your report for equifax.
I think we should all sue for their poor response to this; and their free crappy product doing nothing to help.
Also: a kind warning to all those thinking a credit freeze is the best act. I have had to do this years ago and it was a nightmare; UNfreezing and proper inquiries for car loans and what not were not able to access.

They deserve to go bankrupt. Oligopoly, making money hand over fist and they fail miserably in their core business.

It's a shame that the CIA is stealing their own people's info and on top of that, life lock and is a shadow company for "them"
