I'm not talking about a technique - I'm talking about comfort - there is a certain amount of getting to know the QB or Center if you're on the other side of the exchange.
While the QB/Center exchange is important, it really doesn't take that long to develop the requisite "comfortability" there. That can come over the course of a week.

As it stands now, if we went with Clapp and Cush, you would have to decide who plays out of position? Do you have Cush learn guard this year, when he almost certainly moves back to Center next year? Or do you keep Clapp (I think naturally a center, but has played guard) at his position, Cush at his position and play a young guard, now, at his future position?
You play the best 5. Period. There are countless guys in college football and the NFL who play different positions on the line all the time. It wouldn't be a tall order to have Chusenberry play guard this year then move back to center next season. Clapp is doing just that. Lae'l Collins played guard early, then moved to tackle. Kevin Mawae played tackle for the most part of his first 3 years at LSU. His senior season was the only year he was the full-time center. Barrett Jones at Bama started at guard. He then became an All-American tackle before moving to Center. These guys cross-train positions.

Like someone said earlier this month - so if you start Cush at C, and Clapp at G, then someone else has to start taking reps at C, just to have a backup.
That makes sense. What may be the issue is that the staff isn't 100% convinced of Clapp's health. Thus, they are keeping Chusenberry off the field in the event Clapp needs to be replaced

is Gonsoulin a walk on?
Posted on 8/28/17 at 1:30 pm to Ace Midnight
Add Mo Claiborne to that list.
Fulton is certainly talented, but it could be a whole list of things that's keeping him off the field. Maybe he missed classes or a meeting/practice. Maybe he's injured. Maybe he isn't being physical enough in the run game. Maybe he's just not focused and dialed in right now.
Remember, Toliver was a freshman All-American and hardly played at all his sophomore year. He's a starter again going into his Junior season. I haven't heard much about Fulton, but don't write him off just yet.

yes, but his academic skills made it easier and better for LSU. Who's the punter, sorry if I missed it earlier in thread.

Wisdom teeth doesn't put you out for a week
It seems likely that they just decided to go forward with the wisdom teeth procedure since he was going to be out of practices for a week.
Just me guessing.

What happened with Donavaughn Campbell? seems to have fell off the face of the earth.
He missed most of fall camp because of injuries.

The 2017 class is just loaded with talent. It was Miles' parting gift.
No, Miles gets exactly zero credit for that outstanding class Coach O brought in in 2017. Give me a break.

Most of that class committed to Miles and it would look similar if he was still the head coach. 2018 is the first class we truly get to judge Orgeron on and 2019 needs to be big for him with how much talent will be available in state.

Hopefully a motivation tactic of some sort. Find it hard to believe that Jontre has come in and gotten into 2nd team status....
No hopefully the fact that Jontre beat him out is his motivation and doesn't become an excuse for him. I mean put yourself in these guys shoes. Everyone has told you that you are the best for as long as you've played. The media put a high number by your name coming out of HS, and it was obviously earned but once you get to college some people advance at a different rate both physically and mentally. If you don't have that mental edge as another guy who is just as athletically talented as you, then you will be passed up.
Some of these highly rated guys don't have that edge with them and just expect things to come to them. I'm not saying that Fulton is that guy but it's obvious that he needs to turn it up a bit. I hope that O is good at motivating these types of guys because we can't keep losing them. We have to find a way to put that fire into them. Maybe him seeing another guy pass him will do that instead the the opposite affect. We'll see in time. I just wanna say that this freshman class at the end of their careers will be considered one of the most talented and deep that LSU has ever had in some time.

I've heard of wisdom teeth but I think he could be nicked. Orgeron is going to be more protective of his players than Miles was so don't be surprised if it's something very minor.
After the flak Miles received last year from the rant about Fournette's ankle sprain, Orgeron would be wise to be quite about it. When it was first reported that Guice was nicked up, the first thing I thought about was how the rant threw a fit about starting players getting hurt during meaningless practices just weeks before the season started.
This year, not a peep from the rant.

You're right. Miles never lost 7 of the top 10 LA players. And it had been 5 years since he had a class ranked this low. That was all O.
