All talk about improbable stories aside, I find it fascinating that a lot of the advice of the Bible still has relevance considering it was written by somebody who had to be a lot more primitive than anybody today.
Probably applies to a lot of ancient writings. Aesop fables being an obvious example.

I advise people to take Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection as highly literal and accept his payment for sin.
Why?

It's almost like our ancestors knew a thing or two about the human condition and the current trend of dismissing them as ignorant troglodytes is a little short-sighted.

The Gospels can't even agree what time of day Christ was crucified
3 of the 4 say he died at "the 9th hour", 3 pm. That is the biggest point with Good Friday. Not when he was crucified, but when he died.

When God said, "Let us make man in our own image", who was he talking to?
The whole premise of the Creation Story is that it was told by God to the author, supposedly Moses. The "us" and "our" was referring to the angels. Man was supposed to be perfect, with the one difference between him and God/the angels being the lack of knowledge of good and evil.

Correct. The intent was to put an upper limit on retaliation.

Who says it took a week? Maybe 20-40 years:

Most ordinary christian religious folk have pretty much came up with this same interpretation on their own without being any type of scholar.

I went to Catholic school in middle school. I am pretty sure we were taught that that old testament were parables...
The time between Jesus's apparent death and when the bible was written was several hundred years. So between that time and translating it, I doubt it was 100% accurate. Then the bible is a collection of writing that were picked to be published so what did the other stuff say?
Why would anyone take it literal?

That's likely a product of the number of people that still hold to the mythology today.
People are people, and with the right influences, behavior is relatively predictable.

I've honestly thought this for a while. The bible and religion are a moral guide to life. If you need it, use it. If you can be a decent human without it, so be it.
But for Christians to damn and condemn non believers is comical

The Old Testament books were written down long before Jesus. The Gospels were written shortly after Jesus, and Paul wrote most of the other New Testament books in the decades after Jesus. The Bible wasn't assembled into one big book for a long time, but the individual books were all written.
