All those people are going to head to Florida now. Louisiana is fricked again.

Martini has been such a crotchety old man lately. Hope everything is OK.

Here's a thought: pay your people well and give them good benefits. Give them a reason to stay.

People from Louisiana might go where the work demand is? Holy shite did you get your economics phd from Stanford?

I think you are missing the point. Sure they will and that is precisely why this will hurt this area. The work force was tight to begin with and a lot of projects were already on hold because of lack of skilled workers and increased labor costs. Now you have it even more and the increased material costs to boot.

If you are in Lafayette and are a laid off oilfield worker I see your point. Or Houma or some other oilpatch service related area that has taken a hard hit. But Lake Charles or the areas between Baton Rouge and New Orleans there is a large demand for skilled workers and they just aren't there.

It's a discussion that's all. I'm not a wizard here. Should we all just go back to the white trash cheap shots the frat pledge drinking thread and call it a day? Huh? Funroe? Sorry you got your trucknuts stuck in the mud.

But I know Turner, Excel, Brock, Pala etc...guys and I know their struggles to keep up. I don't think people understand the scope and volume of projects being performed up and down this river and around Lake Charles.

Yep.
I talked to someone this morning who said Shell Geismar lost at least 30 contractors over the last week due to Harvey work. It's just beginning too.

People don't understand(as noted by a lot of dumbasses in this thread), these skilled people who can pass drug and back ground test are hard to come by. Now there are a bunch of industrial facilities in Texas that need to get repaired and/or go into turnaround status and money will be no object.

My biggest concern is what this will do to long term wages. There was already a shite ton of Turnaround/Project/and new construction stuff coming in 18 and 19 in the petrochem industry and now we have to start the wage war game early.

And then as noted, the unskilled labor is going to leave the industrial work force to go work for cash. Hope people don't need scaffold builders and insulation and painter types anytime soon on any large scale.

Didn't mean to hijack your ground-breaking, thought provoking thread. Carry on.

Well it's not my people to be honest but it affects me. People working hourly for us make $25-$45 an hour with pretty much a guaranteed chance at 8-10 hours of overtime weekly IF they want it. They use my fleet and fuel and I'm a very flexible guy. They have no problems with me. Is that not a decent wage? You tell me since I don't really follow other crafts and haven't for years. I do not offer health insurance. Is that not paying them well?

You didn't hijack anything. You are FunroePete in Lafayette. Didn't I see you in a video with a purple cast on?

Well, you tell me. Is health insurance for you and your family considered a part of your pay? I'm guessing that life insurance and 401(k) is out too.

As far as the pay scale, I'm gonna speculate that it's closer to $25 an hour than $45 an hour. And no, that is not a good salary. A person living on his own would struggle making that little.

Really? $52,000.00 to $93,000.00 base salary for blue collar industrial work is not a fair wage? With an opportunity to make approximately 25% more in overtime annually and per diem if traveling? Interesting. I'd like to know what you would consider a fair wage.

Health insurance for my family is $1800.00 per month with a $8000.00 deductible that is paid out of my pocket. That's 30k out of pocket annually. Yeah sorry I can't offer that.
