Whole Paycheck’ No More? Amazon to Slash Prices at Whole Foods

Looks like Amazon is going to act quickly in lowering prices.
"Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has apparently heard enough “Whole Paycheck” jokes.
After shareholders approved its nearly $14 billion buyout of organic grocer Whole Foods on Wednesday, Amazon announced it’ll be slashing prices on a myriad of items in its stores. The price cuts will go into effect on Monday, when Whole Foods officially falls under the wide Amazon banner.
Whole Foods will shift to Amazon Prime as its customer rewards program, with Prime members receiving “special savings and in-store benefits” immediately."
“To get started, we’re going to lower prices beginning Monday on a selection of best-selling grocery staples, including Whole Trade organic bananas, responsibly-farmed salmon, organic large brown eggs, animal-welfare-rated 85% lean ground beef, and more,” said Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Consumer, in a statement announcing the decision. “And this is just the beginning — we will make Amazon Prime the customer rewards program at Whole Foods Market and continuously lower prices as we invent together. There is significant work and opportunity ahead, and we’re thrilled to get started.”

Oh man, just so many over priced things. I won't even start with the seafood.

I'm eating the sesame noodles right now and man they are good.

Bad idea imho.
It will be a nationwide chain catering to budget crunchers. It loses what makes it chic.

It's a good start but still won't get me there
I have a central market right by Whole Foods and it blows it out of the water. Not to mention more specialty places are popping up and Kroger and other places are expanding organic options.

Martini, Oh I am sure it's good. Whole Foods is terrific. Wife brings home stuff every week.
FT, think this has been the trend as other grocery stores have caught up.
Just google "whole foods losing market share" Quite a few articles that goes back more than a year

Kroger
Speaking of Kroger:
"Whole Foods is losing millions of customers to what was once an unthinkable threat: Kroger.
The organic-food chain has lost as many as 14 million customers in the past six quarters, according to Barclays analyst Karen Short."

Not sure how long it's been since you've been to the Baton Rouge location, but the customer base has changed dramatically. Shopping there is almost intolerable.
It's no longer the pleasant experience it once was.. the clientele or target market has plummeted and this is Amazon's way of catering to them.

The BR location's clientele has been slipping. Now it's going to be like Nairobi in there.

Agree. It's been bad for 5 years

Has been Slipping? When was it ever elite?

The WF in Lafayette is a shell of itself from when it first opened. Gone are the usual tri-tip, hanger, and other harder to find cuts of meat. In its place in a couple of windows of the cooler are ad posters. Also, the increasing amount of tumbleweeds is a shopping hazard.
Sadly, they've also stopped carrying my dairy free cookie dough ice cream.
I do like their quality but I really don't have reason to go there anymore.

That's because there is only one location. Move one out to to the sticks to keep the suburbanites from trashing it up.

I am in the BR Whole Foods twice a week and it is the same to me as when it opened. I'm in there mid day if that matters.

I don't care how much the swill costs so long as they still sell the $30/lb truffle calabrese.
