Why does this continue to get repeated? He makes less because there was zero market for him. He was essentially looking at two options, take whatever they are willing to pay me to be head coach or remain the DL coach and possibly get fired depending on who they bring in as a head coach.
LSU didn't pay him less money because he asked them too. They paid him less money because nobody else was looking to hire him. If he had a HC offer from another school, you can bet your arse he would have asked LSU to beat the offer or at least match it.

How do you "turn into" a Saban/Harbaugh type?
You either are or you aren't. O isn't.

Exactly. There was literally ZERO competition for Os services as HC so of course he settled for near bottom SEC HC pay. People that think O did LSU this great service by accepting less money to get expensive coordinators are retarded. Hell getting top notch coordinators was his biggest sales pitch in landing the job.

I predict many years. I think he will be very good fit for lsu

The second he asks for more money is when his contract should end... His coordinators are everything, sure he can recruit, but he cannot take over a game on either side of the ball, He has the top two coordinators in the game. What happens when they leave? I think he is ok for the time being, I would have rather taken the bigger gamble and given it to Aranda. I believe he is the most important person on staff..
I still think they should have gone after Gundy at Oklahoma State, He has done a terrific job there since taking over for Miles. Only problem was he would have gotten rid of too many of our on hand staff, and I think we have a great staff.. I was very against Orgeron hire but I do feel better about it in the immediate future because of the staff he has assembled.. The coach that came from USC is a one of the best in the country in recruiting.. Keep a top budget for coordinators and we will be ok..

The season can't start soon enough

The guy that kicked Sabans arse in the championship last year didn't just wake up one day a national championship coach.
I don't see it mentioned often when speaking of his Ole Miss days but does anyone really think these are comparable situations?
You have a program in the dumps..taken over by a young, "green", overly enthusiastic cajun fella.
Compared to a program with 3 natty appearences in 15 years, who's benchmark is beating the dynasty in BAMA who just happens to be in the same division.
O didnt have the resources to build a great program at Ole Miss. He has every tool he needs and the personality to suit to bring LSU back to the top.

I mean, if LSU has success, why shouldn't O demand more money?

Idiotic thread.

The Orgeron hiring decision seems to be based on the notion, never tested to my knowledge, that if your Coordinators are good enough, your HC need not be qualified.
This theory strongly underestimates the role of the HC in organizing and managing a coherent, sustainable and successful program.
DaCoachO has never succeeded in this, but the plan seems to be to "hope" he will.

because he isnt the main reason for the success.. Take away Aranda and Canada what does LSU do?..
Bama changes coordinators and they dont miss a beat.. Okie state changes, they dont either.. etc etc.. their head coaches are still doing the teaching and have a strong hold on play calls.. for O to be successful he has to stay away from that...
huge difference.

He was hired because the AD was a lazy arse who didn't even conduct a ligit search. Hiring a journeyman DL coach as LSU's head coach was a huge leap. Ask your self what other SEC school would've hired O?

Nice to see you haven't learned and are still as stupid as ever.

I think he will last 4 years. He has to do two things to win, i.e., remain.
1. He has to keep/hire great coordinators (with an OC that develops QBs); and
2. He has to recruit consistently in the Top 5.
This year's recruiting class will finish, IMO, outside of Top 5. It is possible, if not likely, that we lose Aranda after a good defensive season this year to the NFL.
I do think he can accomplish the aforementioned goals. I'm still not sure he's capable of the game time decision making and leadership necessary to win championships, which is obviously the only standard he should be judged by in the end.
We fired a guy that won a lot to win championships. Anything less in 4 years and he should be gone IMO.

I think its great how the consensus is HE HAS TO HAVE GREAT COORDINATORS.
shite people we just need someone with ANY twists in their offense to be better than we were with Les.
We will always have great defense as long as we stack up talent like we do. Having a guy like Aranda guarantees we have THE BEST defense in the land but the notion that Ed has to have THE BEST coordinators to be sucessfull is a bit overblown.
There are probably 50 offensive coordinators that could improve LSU with our talent.
When Canada leaves (after back2back nattys) there will be another to fill his spot.

Regardless. If Coach O is successful, you damn right he will demand more money.

It's a nice idea in theory. And it will work fine when things are going well.
I think in practice though, when things don't go exactly according to plan and blame has to be assigned, O will find the finger pointed at him.
And how is he to influence change if he has no say in strategy? This is where the plan all falls apart.

Those who think Alleva's biggest error was the decision to hire The Orgeron haven't taken the time to carefully read the contract terms that Alleva approved for that hire and the termination/ buyout clauses. The contact was at least as much AD malpractice as the hiring decision itself (yes, I know these are closely related issues)
