Anybody ever purchased a demo car?

I'm hearing ads by a local car dealer about these ford executive vehicles with less than 5k miles supposedly in good shape. Just curious if anybody has experiences they would share. I'm not getting a ford but interesting in the concept of the demo car.

What kind of "deal" are they promising you?

demo car
Glorified rental. Depends on who who demoed it. The owners wife has a Demo and 4 kids and it is always trashed when we get it back. Sales people used to Demo and some one take care some didnt.

GMs/sales managers get drivers as company cars. They are new car inventory that they can put under 5k miles on and still be sold as new. They are fine to buy, but usually there is not much discount vs. one with 5 miles.

They don't have anything specific other than a warranty and financing are available. I figured they are pushing some POS Taurus, but I don't know the specifics of any offers.

FiL bout a "program vehicle"
Essentially a 2017 GMC Sierra with 6k miles
He got a decent deal because he is buddies with the GM. Got it for the same price as a 2015 Sierra SLE

We got a new Volvo XC60 that was a demo. Had like 8 thousand miles on it. Someone at the dealership had it and took pretty good care of it. Fully loaded and got about 10K off. Going on 2 years and have had zero problems with it.
I think it all just depends on who they are letting drive it like someone referenced earlier.

at least you have a sense of humor.
FWIW, my father had a couple of Lincoln Towncars he bought from Barker down in Houma. Demo type vehicles with under 5K miles. Never had an issue with either one. They knocked some off of the asking price but all the warranties were the same. He was/is a fan of the program.

I haven't dealt with buying a "new" car in many years, but back in the 90's one of these kind of deals was pushed on me. I happened to know a salesman in another state (personal friend) and he told me that the "demo car" or "program car" deals are/were not really deals at all. You could get the same deal on a brand new vehicle. They try to convince you that it is a special deal but they are really just trying to get rid of cars that have mileage on them. I would stay away unless they are knocking significant money off the price.

is a demo like a "program" car?

I almost bought one, but what stopped me was the fact that I had no idea how each driver had driven the car around this area (DFW). Couldn't close the deal and decided on a new one instead.

My mom got one that was a manager's car. I think it was a year old with 13k miles on it. No problems.

Would have to be a super duper deal, it's a used car.

Yeah I figure they knock a decent chunk off the MSRP since they have some miles on them

I bought a rental car years ago, undenounced to me... I was actually pissed/concerned at first when I found out but it was fine.

I once bought a Dodge Neon that was one. It had about 4,000 miles on it when I bought it. I ended up putting close to 250,000 on it myself. Didn't ever give many problems. Changed the clutch twice, put brake pads on a few times. Other than that, the only problem I ever had with it was that the alternator went out twice.
