Another 200 jobs leaving Baton Rouge

Albermarle closing up the rest of the shop
And taking them to North Carolina. These are very well paying jobs and I have several friends involved. Probably all will move and take their job, salary and tax base with them. Talk about white flight.

The local “town hall meeting,” headed by CEO Luke Kissam, came as North Carolina state officials were announcing a $4.3 million grant for Albemarle, paid over 12 years, to expand its facilities and employees in that state.

The move comes two years after Albemarle announced it would be relocating its headquarters from Baton Rouge to Charlotte with the help of a $2 million state incentive package.
So NC purchased them

I'm not really sure what people that are mobile are waiting for.

Dang, I did a big piping job for them a couple of years back in their testing plant. A couple hundred grand just for the inspection work. Seemed like a pretty laid back little place.
One of the engineers said that was the prototype plant. The scientists would come up with the product (mostly FRC material if I remember correctly) and they'd test it there as well.

Anything the state can do to keep them in Louisiana?
Would JBE even pickup the phone for this?

The first step in changing to a new high tech economy is getting rid of all of these outdated companies.
We will be running India's call centers in a few years it will be so cheap to get labor down here.

I wouldn't be surprised if all 200 of them take the move.

Well the 20 people I know that work there I'd say 18 will leave and the other 2 will commute.
They are all white. Oh well...let's call it "white collar."
Actually NC gave them less in incentives than LA originally did when they were lured here in 2008 or 9.

The people you know are white? Well, that settles it then. Must be white flight.

4.3 million over 12 years for 200 jobs is about 1800 per year per job.
That's well less than the income tax collected by NC on those jobs will be... not to mention the other impacts to the economy.
LA paid a lot more than that originally to get them here.
Incentives don't work if people only come here because of the incentive. Incentives might get them in the door but you have to give them a reason to stay. And in LA... we aren't doing that.

Technically Albermarle is a place in NC already...
The city
The Sound
The boat manufacturer
Seems like they're just returning to their roots.
