How can someone who stole so much from the people he was elected to help, be considered good and kind?

Having some guy named Vitter bake his cake had to be icing on the cake.

If you have ever met the man you would understand. He has faults. Sure.

But he is a genuinwly nice guy.

Not cold like Jindal. Or oozing creepiness like jbe.

Yeah I would say stealing from the people is a fault.

Look... would I love to chat with him and hear some of his stories? Of course. Would I love to sit with him and rate chicks? Of course.

But his "faults" are a significant reason our state is so F'd up right now.

"A genuine nice guy"? You must be a youngster. He ripped off the poor people, the ones he professed to represent, every chance he got. And he got a lot of chances in cheating them out of their proper oil & gas royalties, for decades. As one of the few, if not only, French speaking attys at that time in those areas of La. he insisted on every oil & gas lease that he handled, and the poor trusted him, be in French & English. Guess which one got filed in the parish courthouses & which one he represented to his "clients" as the deal he negotiated for them. My father was a land man back in those days & he said EWE ripped off 1000's of poor people back in those days. And that is just one way he screwed those he professed to love & represent. Texaco built him a 6' high brick fence around his 1000 acre ranch in Texas when he, as Gov., got the State to dismiss its suit against Texaco for screwing the people of La. in their royalty payments. The State had Texaco by the balls & the State caved under his orders; costing the State millions of dollars. Yea, quite the good ol'boy funny man. A moral piece of trash.

Some people are just all too willing to be hoodwinked and ruled.

If you don't think EWE isn't a creepy old crook then you've never met him.

She saw an opportunity when he was in jail. She started writing him letters, they become close. She wants his money, he just wants a hot piece of arse when he gets out of jail.. Win-Win.. And she gets knocked up by him for insurance (just in case anything goes wrong, she still has his kid). Now she is probably asking herself "how long will this old son of a bitch live?"

Poor plan on her part, he doesn't have much in the way of assets other than the house, he spent money as fast as he stole it, always sure the next big deal was right around the corner. He has no bargaining power or influence to sale, and relies on retainers and consulting fees from well off friends.

Does he still have the Texas ranch?

I also thought he had a pretty big place somewhere in Mississippi.

Come on. You can't compare Edwards and Benson. Benson earned his money.

He is a nice guy. I worked my arse off to beat him in 87 and 91. I defer to no one in my opposition to him politically. But speaking from direct experience he is a pleasant, charming, easy going nice person, or the greatest fricking actor who ever lived, and why would he make that effort for some nobody like me?
