Just got Stanley Steamer to do ours yesterday. Have heard about them but never got them.
They. Are. Awesome. Did all three bedrooms, removed furniture/items less than 100 lbs. and the carpet looks amazing. We have two pets and it's hard to believe how good it looks.
Also, under $200 for all 3.

Doesn't matter who does it. If you still feel any soap on the carpet when there done they didn't do a good job

Now sit back and watch the stains magically reappear in a couple weeks. Carpet is nasty. Especially with pets in the house. I agree with the poster above me , get rid of the carpet.

Very true if a person selects a traditional carpet cleaning company, such as Stanley Steamer.
Carpet cleaned will look great initially, but as you said, the stains will come back as the carpet and padding dries.
Dry carpet cleaning is a better solution, however it is usually more expensive to do so.

I've had both Stanley Steamer and some local generic company ... both did the same thing. They sprayed the carpet very lightly with some agent, then came in with their high pressure "steamer" (which I noticed wasn't actually steam), and finished with some quasi-lazy vacuuming. It looked nice, don't get me wrong, but I noticed that it wasn't that nice.
The next time I rented the equipment myself and took my time. I feel like that gave me the best results in the bedrooms. Plus that gave me the time to move furniture around and get every nook and cranny.
Just my 2¢.
