I'm pro 2nd Amendment, but this is just insane. Why would you ever carry a firearm without first seeing how it fires? Is it prone to jamming? Is the safety tricky? How is the trigger pull? Old Man River got very lucky.

If cops won't even talk about a shooting incident without a lawyer, then you shouldn't either.
While this is certainly good advice with respect to media, the cops want to get a statement from you when they arrive on the scene and get your account of what happened. So you will have to do some talking about the incident which makes it a different scenario than police shootings.

yep, plus, I'd bet this is being taken out of context, I would imagine that he means that he's never fired a gun in anger, or in the heat of a conflict, or something like that

So if you refuse to talk to the cops and explain why and how you shot someone when they arrive on the scene, how are they supposed to not arrest you?
Of course you have the right to say nothing, but I'm not aware of that at all being necessary or common in the case of a self-defense shoot.

Sorry, but I'm not doing that. I may say something like "I shot him while he was robbing me", but that's about it. All you have to say is "I'm not in any condition to give an account of the incident right now".

Would you rather spend a little while in jail or 20 years?

You serious Clark? The gun jams after the first shot. He has never fired a gun before. Will he have the wherewithal to clear the jam? What if that first shot missed and his attacker is now firing back. See the problem here?
It's foolish to carry a firearm without ever having fired a gun. Foolish. Unless yall are correct that he meant he's never fired a pistol in the heat of the moment.

Ok, well that's still saying something, which is my point.

I'm not saying expound but a broad rundown of why you shot someone, assuming you were in fact shooting in self defense, is reasonable.

How do you get a concealed carry without ever shooting?

I hate that he says, "I didn't shoot to kill." Sure he did. He shot a perp with a firearm center mass. He's a self proclaimed novice with a firearm. How would he know where to shoot "not to kill, but save a life?"
Other than that, I'm glad that he didn't become a victim.

I was referring to the trigger.
If I'm at your house and a burglar comes in, I'm grabbing whatever gun you toss me. frick the trigger pull.

So now, his credibility can be called into question because he's lying. You see, this is why you never do what this guy did and talk to the press.
