It actually can be curbed. Cut off her access to any money you earn. Allow her to spend only the money she earns, after half of the bills are paid from what she earns.

This sounds great but the kind of advise that will eventually UNLEASH EVERY DEMON IN HELL UPON YOUR SHREDDED FLESH IN THE FORM OF THE COMMUNITY PROPERTY LAW.

Unless you made a contract before marriage that says otherwise, ...IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH MORE YOU MAKE THAN SHE DOES,... HALF OF IT IS LEGALLY HERS.... IT'S THE LAW.... YOU HAVE NO LEGAL RIGHT TO SAY OR DO OTHERWISE.

Best to get hold of this reality and ALL OF ITS IMPLICATIONS now.

One more time:

Best to get hold of this reality and ALL OF ITS IMPLICATIONS now.

It's a MUCH BIGGER DEAL than anyone is communicating. IT'S THE LAW!!!

My wife has her own money so I don't worry about this.

Pack yourself up and move to the camp. When you stock up, make sure to pay full price for everything nice. That'll show her.

Long ago decided IDGAF what she buys or where she puts it, my toys are much more expensive than anything BB&B or Kirkland's sales.

Only deal is all C.C. balanced must be cleared monthly.

I haven't figured this out yet. I don't say anything when she buys things I don't understand, but that means I didn't have to answer any questions when I brought home an expensive mountain bike today.

Just know this, buying things gives women a high, like cocaine. To shut it down, it would take some intervention level shite.

I recently got married, and today my wife comes home with a bunch of shite. "it was on sale" she says.

Tell me, ot... How did y'all curb this? I don't want the inside of my house to look like a bed bath and beyond, thanks

I read through the entire thread but I'm not sure if I remember it being mentioned if she works or not. If she does and she still puts in on her portion of the bills, there's nothing you can do to curb this besides talking to her about bringing home too much shite not needed. If she doesn't work, where and how is she getting money to spend?

Even though I spend my own money, I still hide my bags whenever I buy things. Not sure why I do, but I just do that. I just don't feel like dealing with the questions of why I bought what I bought and don't I have enough of it already. It's just a habit I have of spending money on things I want. I never overspend, but every time I attempt to go a pay period without unnecessary spending (clothes, salon visits, shoes, undergarments), it never fails that some store in the mall or online will have a sale. I always say as long as it's 50% or more off, it's a deal. I also stalk multiple websites at a time to ensure I'm getting the best price and have a Citibank price rewind card to dispute a lower price whenever I find it on something I've bought.

Good luck on curbing this habit with her. Talking about it won't hurt, but don't belittle or shame her because it leads to her hiding things. Just say you're concerned and want to ensure she's not overspending on these items.

lol it's so funny that everything in marriage is individual except for the money. It's always "we" in marriage when it comes to money. Like my aunt came over bragging about the boat "they" bought. Nah homie you don't work. You didn't buy shite.

In the old days, the typical OT response to the problem would have been "PIIHB and tell her to make you a sandwich". I think it's worth a shot...and may be your best hope.

There is a singular exception and that is if she found the right area rug in her purchases.

Maybe one that ties the whole room together.
