Welcome to the movie board Mr. Nolan

Man I mean I liked it OK, but I definitely don't see where the hype is coming from.

Haven't seen it yet, but it sounds like it's not only the best movie in the history of film, but quite possibly the best movie in the history of humans.

Hearing rumblings that because of this film they are thinking of resetting the calendar in terms of B.N. and A.N.

There is no way to quantify what is best when it comes to Art. Different works speak in different ways to different observers. It's a good movie.
And it has Spitfires.

Just got out. Not even Nolan's best movie

Really good WWII film. Still prefer The Dark Knight and Interstellar, but I recommend this for all.

They don't really purr they snarl and crackle like the biggest Harley ever.
Sigh For a Merlin
The Brits made 150,000 Merlins. They were used by the Spitfires, Lancasters, Hurricanes, Mosquitoes, and other aircraft.
Packard build Merlins in this country under license for the P-51 Mustang.

More Movie Spitfires
The BBC did a great job on the novel "Piece of Cake" back in the 80's. Six part mini-series. Should be available on Amazon.

Early Spitfires were armed with 8 X .303 cal machine guns. This wasn't really optimum and they added some 20MM cannon to later versions. But the HE-111's and JU-88's coming back to France after striking GB during the Battle of Britain were riddled with bullets and so were the crew members. Tpyical crew on these aircraft was 5. Often every crew member would be dead or wounded. It tended to whack the German morale.
JU-88
HE-111
These were both excellent aircraft.

Enjoyed it. But his choices acted like a wet blanket on a truly remarkable story.

I could have sworn a character said they did or something to that effect.

The father taking his boat across with his son and the other young man said it was the best sound you could possibly hear, or something like that.

Geez I liked it lot. He left out all that was extraneous. He didn't even name the Germans I don't think. Who cares about how the Brits got into that shite sandwich. The characters knew an impending catastrophe was upon them. But the audience could see and hear the Stukas and their sirens and the Heinkels and their cascades of bombs onto the Brit ships. They could hear the machine gun bullets piercing the hull of that one boat. The stakes were pretty clear.
"But pardon, gentles all,
The flat unraisèd spirits that hath dared
On this unworthy scaffold to bring forth
So great an object. Can this cockpit hold
The vasty fields of France? Or may we cram
Within this wooden O the very casques
That did affright the air at Agincourt?
O pardon,
And let us, ciphers to this great account,
On your imaginary forces work."
Henry V Act 1, Prologue

Should we see it on IMAX or 70mm. Which would be the better experience?
