Body of North Shore fire chief's wife to get 2nd autopsy as family and coroner reach agreement | NOLA.com

The body of Nanette Krentel will be preserved so her family can set up a new autopsy to examine her death in July, when she was found with a gunshot wound inside her burning home. The decision to keep her body came as relatives and the St. Tammany Parish coroner reached an agreement Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 22), the Coroner's Office said.

A Wednesday court hearing at which Krentel family members were to seek a court order to preserve her body was canceled.

Coroner's office spokesman James Hartman said the agency will maintain custody of Krentel's remains so members of her family can bring in another medical examiner to look at the case.

Krentel, the wife of Fire District 12 Fire Chief Stephen Krentel, was found dead of a gunshot wound July 14 in their burned-out home off Louisiana 434 north of Lacombe. The coroner's office has not yet classified the death, which remains under investigation by the coroner, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana Fire Marshal's Office.

Authorities have provided few details about the progress of the investigation.

In a court filing last week, Nanette Krentel's father, Dan Watson and two sisters, all of Iowa, asked the 22nd Judicial District Court in Covington for a temporary restraining order prohibiting the release of the woman's body. They said Nanette Krentel's death may be ruled a suicide and her body cremated, eliminating the opportunity for a second autopsy.

The petition listed as defendants Coroner Charles Preston, Stephen Krentel and Bagnell & Son Funeral Home.

. Im not "black" but I grew up around them so I know how to deal with them so maybe that has something to do with it.

I have worked with and am friends with a few from lacombe and most of them do not consider themselves to be black nor do they act like it. One friend of mine said the only problem he had growing up was with blacks, said he had to fight them nearly every day.

This is true. Lacombe is truly a creole town. For outsiders they may look black but many here consider themselves mixed race and most are. Black, Indian, white, etc. Most loathe the knuckleheads in NOLA and are afraid to go there, especially the older people.

I really like Madisonville and its pretty convenient as well. The only problem is that the entire town is in a flood zone so Ill never buy property there as much as I would love to own one of those beautiful old houses.

Not giving names but I was told by someone who worked closely with him and knew him well that he was a serial cheater. He had been thru multiple girlfriends. Being faithful was not one of the things he was good at.

Not quite sure how much Nanette knew about this. It would seem she didn't know about steve's dalliance with his alleged FD girlfriend as Nanette was FB friends with her and just 4 days before her death had made a sweet comment on a pic the alleged gf posted of her child.
See the latest news article I posted. Am I reading it correctly?

So she shot herself and then lit the place on fire? Makes no sense.

What am I missing?

No idea, I don't live in Mandeville. I am just casually following because I knew the both of them years ago when they first started dating and that was only through a friend of Steve's. even then he struck me as being kind of shady.

So...she lights her house on fire, as a final FU to her Fire Marshall husband, and then turns a shotgun on herself? Is that the story?

That's a stretch.
Statistics show <30% of women use this method (gun), <10% overall (male and female) are successful by this specific type of weapon (shotgun).
It’s not impossible, just extremely difficult to trace a sg shell.
Shotguns are not the choice for various reasons; they are heavy, loud, and imprecise.

Not impossible but not likely.. Fires are usually coverups. Food for Thought!

I believe you are correct with location of entry, but that's really hard with a shot gun.

That was written under a picture of her drinking a glass of wine in Napa???

Although they suck, the mistresses (alleged) shouldn't be blasted. HER husband and child are also in a bad place. How humiliating this must be, even if it is "rumor".

I didn't see anything in that article about a shotgun. Gunshot - yes. Shotgun - no.

Perhaps it was edited, but articles usually timestamp the original and updated versions of an article.
