There's one city of 100k or more and it's Jackson which is a dump.
That's because you have the Coast carved up into smaller municipalities. Gulfport and Biloxi combined would be over 100k, and you also have Waveland, Bay St Louis, Pass Christian, Long Beach, Ocean Springs...the three coastal counties have a total of about 300k.
A lot of the jobs are in Biloxi and Gulfport which are centrally located, and a number of Coast residents work in Slidell or Mobile.

Quality of life is what you make it. You can live in the "best state" and be miserable.

Mississippi is one of only 5 states with no law protecting non-disabled people against discrimination.
Do non-disabled people actually need that?? I've never heard of an instance where someone was told "sorry, we won't serve you because you can see/hear/walk".

I'm not in any way upset about it - I've come to expect it and don't doubt it for a second. I'm just saying that if I were in New York or San Francisco, for example, and said I live in the suburbs of Louisiana on the Honey Island Swamp, I'm sure the people there would instantly feel sorry for me based on all of the perceptions (and realities) about Louisiana. Whereas I find it to be a little slice of heaven. Even with the crime rate like it is today in New Orleans, I love the French Quarter and would miss it dearly if I moved away.

Obesity shouldn't be a metric. That's something you control.
I live in a "bad" state and I'm not fat.

This is the truth, the Delta is the biggest dump in the country.
Only if you are poor. I love visiting the Delta. Clarksdale and Greenwood are cool small towns that have good restaurants and good enough nightlife.
Plus the history of the area and they have excellent food all over, not to mention the hunting and recreation.
If you have money it's not a bad place to be.

CNBC - Louisiana Ranked #2 in Worst States to Live in 2017
Fake polls.

Like most lists of best states, this one is crap. Ranking states by which is best to live in is incredibly subjective. There are things about living in Alabama that I love, but those don't get a lot of attention. People think that if Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, etc aren't liberal utopias, then they are terrible places to live. The fact is, people each have different things that make them like a state, therefore, you can't truly rank them. For one person, Alabama may be where they really want to live, and for another it isn't.
Alabama has things to offer that really appeal to some people, but that don't to others. Same for every other state.

Exactly. I spent 4 months in New Hampshire working and thought that it sucked. I would never live there. Same goes for NYC. I lived in Manhattan for a year in 1999-2000. It was fun in my early to mid 20s but I can't think of a place I'd rather live less than there at 41 with 2 kids.

Never underestimate how much the Northeast libs and West Coast progressives hate the South, the Heartland and those who live there.
Anytime the South gets brought up on a place like Reddit (any of the major subs), 90% of the comments will be about how the south is filled with racist, inbred, backwards, dumb, fat, rednecks. Many of those liberals have an elitist attitude and think they're far better than some southerner because they weren't born there. I know some of them are joking but there are a number that truly believe the south is almost on a 3rd world level.

I'd rank Louisiana below Alabama as a place to live. North Alabama is fairly nice and well educated and the gulf coast isn't bad outside of spring break.
I prefer Texas and Tennessee to LA/Bama.. by a lot. I'd move to North Carolina or Colorado over all of the above in a heartbeat though.

Unfortunately.. their perception isn't far off. There are a few nice places.. NOLA, Huntsville, Bham, Nashville, Franklin, etc. If you aren't in an urban/suburban area (and most of the south isn't) it's kind of a shitshow.
