Job Board: Dream Job Interview
Posted on 7/18/17 at 5:11 am

So I had an interview in December for my dream job and I lost out to an internal candidate. Yesterday I get a call from the same Recruiter and she tells me that the company wanted to know if I would be interested in talking with them about another position that opened up. (Same as previous but more senior)
My question is, do my chances increase because they specifically asked for me? This is the first time this has happened to me.
TIA

I would take it as positive

No. It's probably a bad thing that they went out of their way to ask to speak to you

If the company is reaching out to you than it is more than likely you have made a good impression and are the front runner and/or the one they want to hire.

Ah yes. It wouldn't be a good thread without a smartass.

Thanks that was my thought but I never know how to read these things.

Sorry Dude. they just bringing you in to be the token interview again because they have another internal candidate they would like to promote.
Kidding sounds good for you

It's not a bad thing by any measure. Just means you made an impression in a good way on someone and they want another look. The next interview might prove challenging if it is the same panel of interviewers

If you weren't close to be hired the first time do you really think they'd waste their time by bringing you back? If they reached out to you again you made a great impression.
Now that you know how the interview goes and you really like the company, I'd do absolutely everything possible to hit a home run interview though.

I would think since they called you, yes, your chances are higher.

This did cross my mind.

Yes, it's a good sign.

It depends. Did you write
Could just be they want to hear the next wacky story or great idea

That's a good thing. Go all in!

They found out you were lying about your Bachelor's in patty flipping.

It's better than them not calling you. Don't read too much into it. Go to the interview. Do your best. See what happens.

If it is a more senior position I would think it is a positive. I was in a similar situation once. Had an internal source tell me I had one wrapped up and an internal candidate made a bunch of noise because he was being passed over so they ended up giving it to him to avoid the grief. They called me back a couple of weeks later and asked if I would be interested in interviewing for the job he was vacating. That was after I'd been to their facility 3 different times for their interview process because they couldn't get everyone together on the same day. I told them I had no interest in any additional interviews with them, and they could make an offer if they wanted, but I wasn't accepting a lower position than what I applied for.

Very positive.
Sounds like the first role was slated for the internal dude, you were the token external qualified guy. But you impressed enough that they felt compelled to bring you in anyway.
Good job!
