City uses unusual process for major Bourbon Street construction
And Guess Who's Providing the Concrete for this Job...
I'm sure everything is on the up and up on this. The Landrieu family is known around these parts to be honest and upfront with the citizens of New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS -- As crews dig deep under Bourbon Street for the iconic rue’s most extensive facelift in decades, there are questions about the way Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s administration hired its contractor to perform a $6 million project that’s now expected to cost even more.
Rather than put the centerpiece of Landrieu’s $40 million citywide public safety plan out to bid as a capital project -- as is typically done for work of this size -- the city used an existing pavement maintenance contract to get the project started more quickly.

Hard Rock Construction and its owners have made many political contributions over the years, including $7,500 to Landrieu’s mayoral campaigns.

One of the Landrieu family member’s business is repaving Bourbon Street. It’s been in the traffic advisory news, and caused frustration for businesses, tourists, and motorists, but the news agencies are not reporting on who is doing the work. Landrieu Concrete and Cement Industries is working on the $6 million infrastructure overhaul.
LCCI is owned by Renee Landrieu, cousin of Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

Proud to be a fricking Landrieu!
frick that pile of shite. I love how every time he tweets it's nothing but people shitting on him.

This is why they are paving it in the first place.

Translation: Construction will begin in 2021, and should be completed sometime around the third quarter of 2036.

Delays could occur if additional offensive statues are found.

They could have at least called it "A1 Construction" or something. It's like they are daring people to say something about it now.

Les rues? Ou nous allons, nous n'avons pas besoin des rues!

ThePM they have on the job is good. I've had some dealings with him. I know nothing about how they got the contract, but Hard Rock does good work.

Who is supposed to enforce our "code of ethics" in this state? I mean cmon man. They aren't even trying to hide it anymore.

I honestly hope that's the case.

It gets even better. Because the company is owned by a woman, it is considered a Disadvantaged Business Entity (DBE). Whenever a government project comes up, contractors are required to have a certain percentage of DBEs working for them. Guess which concrete company gets the lion's share of these local government jobs?

Conveniently the budget will be quadrupled by projects end.

If it's anything like the work I've been involved with them on, it will be done ahead of schedule. They like to hustle and get things done early to move on to the next job.
This is nothing like the company that "won" the bid for the monuments.

It already started and is well under way. Bourbon is torn up and the street is fenced off a pretty far away down.

Absolutely. This is not to disparage Hard Rock in any way. But the way Landrieu handles these things always has a stink of cronyism, pandering, and incompetence tied to it.

I put nothing past that piece of shite fricking clown of a mayor. I hope any shadiness comes to light and he finds himself in a cell.

Just like the construction on Louisiana Avenue that has been ongoing for at least 4 years

Garbage all the way around

Why isn't every project over $X going to tender? That is fleecing the city like a MF
I think here in Houston, if it's over 50k, it goes to bid.
