Strip clubs? hahahah None here.

There is one, but most of you would not like it.

Try Onyx Club on Winnsboro Road

It is a black club, and it is really fun. However you may not like the poor black neighborhood around it.

You don't think the fine folks at the BCM wouldn't want to do good things like that?

I wish I had a nickel for every time I walked home from Sals, Hocus Pocus, and Cooter Bay.

I used to live in a house 2 blocks from campus.

It's obviously been a while since you've been to Monroe. Top Gun has been closed for probably close to 10 years. I think they tore the building down about 5 years ago.

I enjoyed the Fox Hole too. It closed in 2007, but was a decent spot for West Monroe.

My college job was working at the airport. I don't know how many nights we shuffled up to the bar after closing the station...but it was a bunch. Back when Airlink overnighted their crews there, there was nothing like marginally attractive flight attendants in their first few overnights. That plus a couple of those long islands were dangerous

It has been. I asked a friend who still lives there and he said he thought it was open. I guess he doesn't get out much.

Trios is pretty good. At least it used to be.

As far as strip clubs, go to the long Branch saloon in mound,LA.

Reading this thread makes me smile with glee that I left Monroe when I finished college. Based on the responses here, it has been confirmed that the good times are indeed over for good in Ouachita Parish.

It was a great place to raise a family 30 years ago.

If you are there when the sororities start coming in, there will be more fresh single pussy than you can shake a stick at. The town has a lot of drawbacks, but it is rich in pussy.

Meh. My sister and her family moved to Sterlington a couple of months ago from Swartz. I grew up on the East side and can't stand the drive down 80 from the old Sonic through 139 way these days. Time forgot this area of town as far as I'm concerned.

Sterlington is growing, but the town as a whole has nothing really to offer young outsiders on a professional level. Yes Centrylink is the largest employer in the state and has done amazing things, but the losses of State Farm, Guide, IP Bastrop, etc set Ouachita Parish back 20 years. People living in Monroe these days are predominantly from Monroe/ West Monroe. This thread says the best thing to do is get a LIIT from the relocated Airport Lounge.

Another city with long-term democratic leadership that has run it in the ground.

When I was at school up there 40 years ago those bastards were famous for walking through parking lots and writing down plate numbers. As soon as you hit the street, they hit you. Never seen anything like it anywhere else.

Four years ago my daughter got married up there. We had a reception at a nice location and just when the first guests leave I start getting phone calls about the Monroe Police setting up an DWI check point three blocks from the reception - fricking trash bastards. Needless to say, I had someone keep an eye on them and of course gave our guests an alternate route out.

I never really hated Baptists or organized religion until I moved to Monroe for school. Can't stand them now. Monroe is a town unto itself. I remember back in the 70's that the local NBC affiliate would not air Saturday Night Live at the time because of the churches bitching.

It still is if you want to raise the kids doing outdoor stuff and send them to any number of maybe 4 or 5 schools in the area that win a state championship in some kind of sport, some in multiple sports. Now if the nightlife is your thing and that's what predominately gets asked in these threads about Monroe, then it sucks arse. Plus, Monroe sucks arse in general. I would probably live in Sterlington or West Monroe if I lived there. One more thing, if I needed culture, I would avoid Monroe like the plague.

The upside is I can't think of a much better area to hunt and fish on public land then Northeast LA.
