I grew up on the East side and can't stand the drive down 80 from the old Sonic through 139 way these days. Time forgot this area of town as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know what you would expect, it is like every other 50 year old residential area in the South. The fact that Lakeshore is still a low cost option for a family with a decent elementary is a testament to the goodness of the people. My parents bought our house in Lakeshore in 69, the neighborhood wasn't new then.

This thread says the best thing to do is get a LIIT from the relocated Airport Lounge.
shite, south Monroe was going to shite when Howard was mayor, it has stayed on the same course. Monroe still remains a solid place to raise kids, enjoy the outdoors, reasonable options for dining and entertainment...and by Monroe I mean select parts around Loop, West Monroe, Swartz and Sterlington.

For the size of Monroe, I would throw their dining options up against anywhere else. Shite man, the NE side of Houston doesn't have the dining options I can find in Monroe and I might even throw the Woodlands in there as well.
Cotton's, Genusas, the Warehouse, and the Waterfront have damn good grub.

Monroe apparently has a large gay population. I went up there to do some wake boarding. We unloaded our boat at the ramp on the north side of town. I went to the bathroom and encountered 2 gay guys in there talking about who was going to man the port a John to give blow jobs through the hole. It's like they wanted me to know.
It was very unnerving.

I would think that getting a blow job from a dude through a hole in a port a John must have been very unnerving. You poor dear.

The port a John has a hole cut out for someone to stick their dick in. I thought it was odd until I heard those gay boys talking about it. It was there in may.

Not me, boy. I'm scared of gay people.

I know there was a lawyer and a successful eating establishment owner that were exposed up there but to my knowledge I doubt Monroe's gay population is any greater than any other cities in LA.
My advice for you is to stay out of public restrooms the next time you go wakeboarding up there.

I never really hated Baptists or organized religion until I moved to Monroe for school.
Time in Ruston did it for me
I went to a baptist middle school so I had a taste but damn I really hated living up there.
